i'm kinda confused....what does the bruin card do? like...how does it work and what does it get you?

Access to sporting events discounts in most westwood stores, access to the library after hours, proves you are a student, entry to and use of gym, you can even put money into it and it serves as a debit card you can pay many school related expenses books, itinerary etc.

do you have to put money on it?

no, but it is a particularly useful feature that I like to use for random small (i.e. snacks, candy :)) purchases at the UCLA store.

Doesn't it also give you accsss to dorms and stuff as well? And serves as your dining pass?

yup. get it because you'll pretty much need it when you are on campus.

actually, no, you have a separate key card to get into the dorms/rooms, but yes is used for your meals in the dinning halls.

Actually, that's incorrect. You need your Bruin Card in order to enter all the res halls with the notable exceptions of Saxon and Hitch. You will also need your Bruin Card in order to go past Access Control from 9PM to 5AM nightly, stationed in front of the entrances to each res hall (Dykstra, Sproul, Rieber, Hedrick, Hedrick Summit.)

You need to carry your Bruin Card on you at all times if you wish to verify that you are a UCLA student. You cannot enter most events without it, and it is your ticket into Wooden and Ashe.

Just keep it with you!

For the record, I worked with Housing for three years, and I was a supervising Access Monitor for a little over a year. Trust me, I know the stupid rules.

Thanks for the correction/further info, however, I know that you need a separate key card to get into the rooms in De Neve.

Yeah, I think normally a separate key card gets you into your room, but my friend who lived in Dykstra last year had connections and somehow he got to use his bruincard to get into his room as well.

You need your Bruincard to enter the building and your electronically-coded key card to enter your room.

If you live in a dorm, you'll hear this phrase occasionally: "Bruin Card and room key please." That means the Access station is malfunctioning.

Oh, and if you frosh give the Access Monitors a hard time...a curse on thee!

I came across the access monitors before. Going up to my friend's room at 1AM I had to show them my ID and they scanned it and everything. They seemed friendly enough, I didn't give them a hard time ;).

Having supervised for over a year, I can tell you that if you are nice to the access monkeys, they'll be nice to you.

Calling them "door Nazis" and "a-holes" does not count.
