Hey everyone! I’m a Cameron Impact Scholar (not trying to doxx myself). I wanted to hop on and answer any questions you have about the process for finalists. I remember it being super stressful and I wish there was more info. Drop your questions below!
If I recall correctly, Amie, the director of BCEF, called me at around 2:50-3:00 PM PST and I missed her call (was in my econ class lol). I called her back and she told me on the phone that I had been selected. Pretty sure unsuccessful finalists received emails earlier in the day (around noon PST) saying that they hadn’t been chosen.
Hey! Am a Cameron Impact Scholar. They only verify recommenders if you’re one of the final few/have been picked. It’s more of a last ‘hurrah’ to make sure you’re legit.
Thanks for hopping on here! Do you know if they ever choose winners without contacting recommenders?
When did they call your recommenders and how long was your interview?
Has anyone from C/O 2022 heard back yet?
did they say specifically when we would hear back? i seem to remember third week of December, is that correct?
Nope. Should be soon.
My daughter is a scholar. To be clear, just because your references are contacted does not mean you will definitely win. I know several finalists whose references were contacted but who ultimately did not win the scholarship. It’s a good sign, but not a sure thing by any means.
Good luck!
Just to clarify, my daughter is a scholar from a previous class. I wasn’t speaking about this year.
@CCName1 Do all of the finalists have their references contacted? Like if my reference was not contacted, does that mean I was rejected
I don’t know that for sure. I know the my daughter’s references were contacted and she is a scholar. The scholar above mentioned that his/her references were contacted. I also know 3 other finalists whose references were contacted and they are not scholars.
I suspect that they contact the references of a smaller group, but I don’t know that with certainty. I only know the anecdotal stories I mentioned.
Good luck!
I can’t imagine that they would award a high-profile scholarship worth $250,000+ and not check references.
Can anyone please share the length of interview?
Good luck!
Hey everyone! Cameron Impact Scholar here. Based on past call times, I expect calls to go out sometime today or next friday.
I agree with the timing guess.
My daughter’s interview was in person, so I don’t think it would necessarily be comparable to the process this year.
have any finalists this year had their references contacted? and finalists last year: when were your references contacted?
I’m not sure if I’ve had my references contacted. They may ask references to keep it a secret.
I think mine would tell me! I’m so anxious about it
Daughter not selected - just got an email. Best wishes to all!
