Bryn Mawr and Men

I'm really interested in attending Bryn Mawr next year and my application deadlines are steadily approaching, but before I could feel comfortable putting myself in an all girls atmosphere it's important for me to understand that I can and will be able to meet men when I go to college. If anyone has any experience in an all girl schooling system and could talk to me about men and meeting them that would be great! Thanks!

I assume if you’ve looked into bryn mawr you also took note that literally right across the road there is a coed school and it is my understanding that there are generally men on campus so there won’t be an issue. I agree though you should talk to someone who has actually had experience there

I know that Haverford is right there, I would be going into the astrophysics program at BMC which happens to be in Haverford. But, I have taken college classes this year and there isn’t much meet and greet, hence my concern.

The opportunity of meeting men is overvalued in my subject opinion.
When a girl (assume you are one) eventually meets “the one” to settle down, the longer list of men you have been involved with before meeting him (ditto for men vs women as well) could be a headache/heartache for both. There are even some articles which talk about how many is too many (lower single digit). This is an area where the more is not necessarily the better.

With this said, there is a recent ad-hoc research by facebook about which colleges are the best for meeting SO while in school or shortly after graduation. Google it if you are interested in it. The top schools are very different from the top schools in US N&R. (Hint, not top ranked by any ranking, not on the coast, conservative/religious – and the hookup phenomenon is NOT rampant. Oh…,for girls, tech schools (but not the top ones on the NE or west coast.)

So Bryn Mawr is like a 5-10 minute ride from my house, and I pass it often. I know pleantly of girls who also go there and they don’t have that problem really. There’s a shuttle going to haverford and swathmore colleges which you can meet guys. Villanova is a 5-10 ride away which you can take buses too and drive. Also you can go into the city very easily to Temple, Penn, Drexel, etc. Regardless you’ll be fine!
