I was wonering if anyone has any idea what my chances of admission are at these schools:
Bryn Mawr (ED)
Villanova
Loyola
St. Mary's of MD
Haverford
Washington College
I have a 1290 SAT (700 verbal, 590 math). I go to a small very competative private school and my gpa is 3.25 unweighted. I play a year round varsity sport, but am not likely "college recruit" level. I have taken a summer of college courses, and a professor from this will write a recomendation for me. I've won a couple Latin and English awards, and my essay was fairly good. My teacher recomendations should be good, and I'm also in other clubs and do some community service. I would be very grateful for any opinions, thanks!

Many Christian schools. Are you Christian perchance?

I think you've a great chance at all of 'em.

Hmmm, I am a Christian, but I didn't pick any for that sole reason. I would like to go to a school with an active religous life, but it is not on the top of things I look for in a school.

I think Haverford is fairly unlikely, but what about Villanova and Bryn Mawr?

Thank you so much!

Nope, I think you've got a good chance at all of them. You seem like the kind of person who would write a knock-out essay, and that ought to be enough to get you in with your credentials.

BrightEyes,
Haverforfd would be your reach, but you'll never know unless you apply. Our D is currently a first yr...it was a great fit for her. Best of luck!

Might look at Holy Cross-better reputation than Villanova or Loyola. Holy Cross also has great Latin/Classics program.

par72 is there a reason why you ta lk about holy cross and colgate on every single one of your posts? He asked for his chances at the mentioned schools. . .so did alot of other people on this board, so why do you continue to do this?

Hmmm, I looked into Holy Cross after reading your post, but it seems a little to far...I'm looking at schools in the Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey area. But thanks for the suggestion!

Anyone know my chances? (especially Bryn Mawr)
Thanks!!!!

I say that you've got a chance at most of them. St. Mary's looks like one of the better, i'd say.

To be blunt your SATs and GPA are low for Haverford and Bryn Mawr. Especially the GPA. I'd rate you thusly:

Bryn Mawr (ED) - reach, even ED due to the GPA.
Villanova - Match
Loyola - Match/Safety
St. Mary's of MD - Match/Safety
Haverford - Nearly impossible reach RD (they love high GPAs and you need at least a 1350-1370 to be competitive with good grades...just trying to be realistic).
Washington College - safety

Haver - slight reach (unless 3.25 gpa puts you in top 10% of your class, then you can get a break because you come from a competative school)
Bryn Ma - slight reach (unless 3.25 gpa puts you in top 10% of your class, then you can get a break because you come from a competative school)

You're in for the rest of them, i'd assume

Thanks!! That really gives me a better idea of where I stand. I don't think I'll apply to Haverford. I love Bryn Mawr, but it's nice to know if I don't get in, there are other schools.

My school doesn't rank, will that hurt my chances?

Also, what constitutes a "reach?" Does that mean no chance, small chance, 50% chance, etc? I've been told a lot that Bryn Mawr is a reach school, but am not completely sure what that means.
Thanks for all the responses!

..........anyone?

University of Scranton...Not.

hmmmm........

Anyone else know my chances?

I'd be very grateful...don't mean to be a bother but am VERY nervous!

Anybody know my chances early decision to Bryn Mawr? The wait is killing me!!! Please??

like I said above, it's a reach. you have a chance, but it's a small one. your GPA is the killer...your SATs fall under their average, too. ED will help, but I'd still look toward some safeties.

Thanks enviroman for the honest answer. I'm really going to try to focus more on finding a few safeties I would be happy at...it's just hard having found one school I REALLY love. But thanks a lot for your advice, it really put my chances in perspective. Any ideas for safeties? I'd like to go somewhere in the Md/Pa/De area and major in English or Latin. Thanks so much!!!!
