BS and MS in Accounting - Does it Matter Where You Go For Undergrad?

I am in a dilemma. I am currently in CUNY Queens College for Accounting. However, I got into Baruch. I know Baruch is superioir for Business/Accounting, but I am a JUNIOR. But most of my classes will transfer anyway.

The main question is...The new rule is 150 credits to sit for the CPA. That means I have to get my MS in Accounting or something similar. Does it matter more where I get my MS from? Or do they (employees, such as Big 4) weigh my undergrad institution just as much?

Also, if for some reason I decide to go to MBA or JD, transferring would make me have THREE undergraduate institutions. Isn't that viewed negatively too?

Thanks!!!

Since you are already a junior, I honestly do not think it makes sense to transfer to Baruch. I go to Baruch and I LOVE it. It is nown for finance and accounting and there are several big firms that recruit from Baruch. I do not now much about the MS requirements, but my suggestion is to stay at Queens for your BBA and then apply for Baruch’s MS Program in Accounting/Taxation, which is really good. I am not 100% sure, but I’m guessing that if you get the MS in Accounting from Baruch, you will definitely get at least 150 credit hours and will sit for the CPA. That’s one of the requirements for the MS I believe.

If you get your BBA in QUeens and then go for the MS from Baruch, then you’re set because tons of accounting firms, including the big four, recruit from Baruch, especially from the MS program. I have several friends who are accounting majors and are getting job offers from Deloitte.

The only thing is that, since you are not a Baruch undergraduate student, you might have to stay longer for the MS, but that shouldn’t be too bad. I would call Baruch and ask them about going into their MS program from another college. If you could do that, it would be great.

And getting an MBA or a JD, or both, is another plus. It will not be three undegraduate institutions. Undgrad=Bachelors and Grad=Masters, Ph. D and other advanced degrees. Either way, it is not bad at all to have three degrees. It actually gives you an advantage.

Find out which credits will transfer into Baruch UG. Find out which Baruch MS classes you can knock out with your Queens UG classes assuming you stay for another year. Calculate how many credits you would have to take in each scenario. Then plug in the varying tuition rates to see which option is cheaper.
