Hello, everyone!
I hope all of your summers went well and that everyone is enjoying their schools. I was inspired by someone else’s re applicant page for last year and wanted to know who would be applying again. I thought it would be interesting to post where you’re applying this year, why (if comfortable with it) BS didn’t work out last year, and a few pieces of advice you would give to any applicants!
I’ll start :))
Applying to: Andover, Exeter, Choate, Peddie, Blair, LVille, Lake Forest, Governor’s, Cate, Stevenson, Loomis, Hill, NMH (Yes I know it is A LOT! However, all of these schools have such unique offerings and are so amazing that it’s so hard to narrow it down)
What didn’t work out last year: FA
Advice: Don’t be arrogant. Although you may not think you are, everyone can get behind the idea that you are going to get into these schools. Be careful! Although it’s great to be cautiously optimistic, it’s also dangerous and in poor taste to cocky about it. Also, STUDY FOR SSAT!!! It is a big factor, though not the biggest, in Admission Decisions and it’s only a plus to get a good score.
One more: Apply to schools you’re in love with!
P.S. All applicants are welcome on here, and I would love to be able to talk with people on this discussion
P.S.S. Have an awesome day!
Hi @ivydreamer01
Also my second time round
My current list of schools(that is subject to change ; )
(I know there are all high reach schools but >:D< ) Groton, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Lawerenceville, Choate, Exeter, Middlesex, and Milton…
What didn’t work out last year: Had no idea what BS was until November :-S and stated applications in December so everything was really rushed… Submitted everything at the last minute and because it was so late I couldn’t get some off campus interviews bc all alums and AOs were booked :(… (I was waitlisted in all my schools and accepted in the local day school…:-/ )
Advice (Are you sure you want to know >:) >:) >:) ) : No but seriously start your applications early… don’t rush through your essays (make sure that YOU are happy with them)… and I agree with with @ivydreamer01 study for whatever test you are going to take (ISEE or SSAT)… Even if you are the top kid in all your classes… I did very well on the ISEE last year but I know I could have gotten a better stanine if I had tried harder… Also schedule interviews… even if you have barely started the application…
P.S. I am applying for 10th
P.S.S Good luck everyone
This is all great advice and the OP seems to have a variety of schools on his or her list. @Atria you might consider expanding your list as ALL the schools you list are super competitive.
Thank you @MAandMEmom and I am indeed a boy! What school your DC end up attending? I saw you on the thread last year but never saw which one they ended up going to?
@MAandMEmom I have already been accepted for a very selective day school so I still have somewhere to go if there is a repeat of last year… (hopefully not X_X ) I am also considering applying to NHM and Emma Willard but they are also pretty competitive…
@center No I was accepted for 10th grade… I will have to tell my decision of enrollment by late march… I am hoping to join a boarding school as my family moves very frequently (often due to my parents business) and we would tied down and have to stay to stay in one place… If we stay in one place at least one of my parents would have to be home and one would be traveling…I love the school but the ‘day’ part might be the clincher … …
