is there any special process you have to go through for reapplications? and does it hurt your chances? anyone else thinking about reapplying?

I’m thinking about reapplying to Lawrenceville and Peddie, muffinqueen where are you reapplying?

I think reapplying would actually help your chances of getting in. Doesn’t that show more persistance? Try again :)

i honestly have no idea. definitly andover and exeter. and i might try at sps since i didn’t last year.

I’m trying to convince my parents to let me apply out-of-state for BS, if I can then I’ll apply for Lville, Peddie, Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, SPS and maybe Choate or Middlesex. But that seems like a lot…I mean, Middlesex doesn’t interest me to the extent where it would be one of my top choices, but it feels like it is more of a safety to me–especially since all these schools I’m applying to have such low acceptance rates.

Doesn’t Middlesex have a lower acceptance rate than Peddie?

EDIT: whoops, i know peddie’s acceptance rate was 24% this year, and on BSR, Middlesex is 25% but we all know how off BSR can be at times… aha, point is: I don’t think a couple percentage points in selectivity are going to make the biggest difference, but rather what the school is looking for in a student. If only we knew what that was…

Muffinqueen: it depends partily on what year you’re applying to enter and, at least for PEA, whether you’re going to apply as a day student or boarder. For example, there’s a big increase in the number of day students between prep & lower years, so reapplying as a day student for the lower year (provided you’ve done very well as a high school freshperson in the interim year) may give you a slightly better chance at acceptance relative to the size of the day student applicant pool for that year. Unfortunately, how much financial need you have may be a negative consideration next year at both PEA & SPS.

Why do you want to reapply? If it’s to attend Andover and Exeter, and you can deal with not getting in, reapply.

If your goal is to attend boarding school, I’d recommend you broaden your list of schools. Exeter and Andover are reaches for everyone.

@ DiveAlive: I’m pretty sure they’re close, and both of them are pretty selective, too, just that the rest I’m applying to are all really selective, too :/

yeah, i think financial aid is a big factor everywhere right now, even in colleges. i would be entering 10th grade. i don’t really want to be a repeat.

If the economy wasn’t so bad, maybe I wouldn’t mind being a repeat. But with the financial situation as it is, I think it would be better to not repeat.

Boarder: Understand the financial considerations. That is real. As for repeating… I repeated 8th grade at SPS (long time ago). Also have a September birthday. In public school I was THE youngest in my class. SPS admitted me to both 8th & 9th, citing my maturity and physical size (ouch! did that hurt). I repeated and discovered the average age in bs was older and I was right in the middle of the pack agewise. So I always glad I did it. Gives you a bit of an edge on testing and grades too.

As to the comment that SPS will be cutting financial aid. Simply not factual. The aid budget for next year has been INCREASED not decreased. SPS knows the pressure families are under abd has responded logically.
