Hi Guys, i really need your help regarding my situation. I'm an Ungradute Accounting International student enrolled in Rochester Institute of Technology, Dubai. Incase you don't know, its the satellite branch of Rochester institute Of Technology, New York. I am planning to tranfer to the main campus of RIT in New York but then again, i am having seconds thoughts about transferring to another university since, the tuition fee is too much. If i do transfer then there is chance of me loosing credits which i don't want. Then again, some people say that RIT is a great University with a lot of opportunities including a great possibility of getting a job, right after graduation and this is really confussing me. What i am looking forward to is, meeting new people that are friendly & easy to be friends with. I would prefer a co-operative university faculty, Great location & affordable Tuition Fee with housing on compus, How much Scholarships they offer and has a great Co-op as well. What is CPA Requirement?

I am also planning to work in the US after my graduation and believe that New York is a great place to get a job and start my career in Accounting. which is why i would really appreciate it if some one could tell about OPT (Optional Practical Training# and when can i apply for it.
Also what is the averiage salary for BS in Accounting graduate?

The followings are the Universities i am considering to go to. Could any one suggest me which university i should join and why?

RIT Rochester Institute of Technology
UB University at Buffalo-SUNY
BU Binghamton University-SUNY
UAlbany University at Albany--SUNY)
Pennsylvania State University--University Park
University of Pittsburgh
Others

Thank you for your time and your suggestions.

RIT would probably give you the best financial package of the schools you list. The SUNYs & Penn State are not likely to give much financial aid to a non-resident. (Binghampton is probably the best biz school of the SUNY’s you list. Univ of Rochester also has a good business school)

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘great’ location, but one point that struck me is that you are currently in Dubai and all the schools you list are located in serious winter weather locations.

I would suggest you make sure where ever you go they take your credits first and I would assume RIT would. Then you can consider the schools that will take your credits earned and consider cost with aide, location ect. In NY to become CPA you need BS or BA in accounting plus 30 credit Master degree, pass 4 parts CPA exam( you can take test before completing MS) and then 2 years work experience. Regarding SUNY’s, Albany and Binghamton have good Accounting/Business programs with connections to NYC. Hofstra is a private college in suburb of NYC with a good accounting program, don’t know what kind of merit aide would be available. Think about finishing BS at RIT and getting internship then go for master at top school for better recruiting opportunities. Also CUNY Baruch College more affordable then SUNY, in NYC, excellent accounting rep.

Why do you never take the word of any other source? Because the Board of Accountancy is the only entity whose opinion matters in whether you get licensed or not, and they don’t care what anyone else says.
