I posted this somewhere else and got some helpful replies, but I just wanted to get more people's opinions.

I know that a couple of Bs in my major isn't the end of the world and that research/LORs are much more important, but is it a problem if I got a B in the only class offered at my college that focuses on the exact field I want to go into in grad school?

It's embarrassing and I don't know how else to explain this... early in undergrad I skipped the prerequisite intro class and took this instead, because I thought it would be more relevant to the research I've been doing, but I ended up spending way too much time in the lab and not enough time hitting the books. All my other grades are fine, and so is my research, hopefully. I'm just worried that come time for applications, either for summer programs, fellowships, or grad school, my recommenders/admissions committees will raise an eyebrow and ask, "You're kidding, right?" Is this something I should explain? Will it hurt my chances of getting into top programs in my field?

laugh I read (and commented on) your post in that unnamed elsewhere. That unnamed elsewhere, honestly, is a lot more likely to give you feedback than this place. This place caters to undergrad applicants; the grad board is kind of an afterthought.

What IS your major? Like I said elsewhere, in general a B in any given subject is unlikely to hurt you, but different fields are different. A prospective English or clinical psych grad applying to programs which often have acceptance rates of under 5% may be in a slightly different situation than a prospective engineering grad whose desired programs have acceptance rates of 35%.

Haha, I did read your comment--it was the most helpful, so thanks for that! :) My major's Biology, but the class I'm worried about is a virology elective. Regardless, I'll try to stop being neurotic, I promise.
