I am an Asian boy from Canada
I'm only applying for the lower-tiered programs, not brown/northwestern/rice etc.

SAT: haven't actually taken one yet, but i averaged a bit over 2300 on the collegeboard blue book tests. i plan on taking the november one. i'm prepared for the possibility of choking on the test, so 2200 would be a more realistic score for me, since I don't get retakes
SAT II: i probably won't have time to take it, since most deadlines are in december
GPA: 4.0 (my canadian school doesn't do weighted/unweighted stuff, but i averaged 96-97% through highschool). my counselor said she won't provide rank/percentile, but i would say probably top 1%
APs: my school only offers AP calc AB and BC, so i'm taking AP calc BC right now
ECs: the usual volunteering,a bunch of clubs, leadership positions in 2; 2 varsity sports, mvp plus awards in one, 2 instruments, play in church band
Medical related: volunteer in hospital over the summer, workexperience at lab testing group, hospital summer camp volunteer, encounters with canada medicine and health program, volunteer at intermediate care senior home, bioethics club chairman (does this count?), first aid/cpr C certified

My problems: (how badly will these damage my chances?)

My main concern is not about my grades and SATs, but about my medical ECs. Many of the people that put their stats up for BS/MD have a couple hundred hours of health related research or shadowing a doctor or emergency room training. These seem much more directly related to medicine when compared to mine. And also, my Medical ECs were mostly done this summer, so I don't have a lot of hours, probably 100 hours tops. I'm guessing this wouldn't show my commitment towards medicine.

I am in no honors societies, I'm not even sure they exist in Canada...

Another problem is my lack of AP courses. As I mentioned before, my school only offers one AP course, so would that make me look bad in comparison, or would the admin officers understand my situation?

Also, I probably won't get to submit my SAT II scores to the programs I plan on applying. Most of them say that it is not required, but is recommended. So would you all agree not having these would hurt my chances greatly?

Finally, only about 4 schools will accept international students. I saw through the forum posts that most people apply for a lot more than that. Will only being able to apply for 4 schools be a problem?

On a side note, my dad, uncle and grandfather are all doctors (in taiwan though). Would putting this in my application benefit me, or just make me come across as arrogant/spoiled? (if I seemed like this in my post, I apologize, I had no intention of doing so)

Please answer as many of these questions as you can, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
