@desigirl23. Did u get 1st round SBU interview yet?

@inevitable - by snail mail about a week ago

No I didn’t get sbu or siena unfortunately… I hope I get an njms rlly want to go there…

@desigirl23 I can’t believe it. sbu or siena is not thar hard to get in.

you may be overqualified for them. what about your sat ii scores?

I know… KLM do u think I have a chance of getting into njms/njit?

I don’t how any of us are “overqualified” for a BS/MD program. Does that mean these programs take people that are under qualified, with no medical experience and crappy scores an grades? C’mon now, let’s get serious. They are extremely competitive programs that have to make difficult choices. They are a crapshoot, just like the ivies. With the stats I have seen, almost everybody here has a great shot. It all comes down to the essays, recommendations, and then, the interview.

Why desigirl23 didn’t get in and you got in? Some schools may think desigirl23 could get in better school then there’s (aka overqualified)

What does it matter what they think? If they want you, they make an interview offer. If you don’t fit, they deny you. Believe me, Siena didn’t deny people because they were overqualified, they are not a godly school.

thebombingrange is right, the concept of overqualified does not apply to these programs. We are all competing against the cream of the crop. High scores and grades are the bare minimum and even if your ECs are perfect, chances are that there are multiple applicants just like you. It really is all about the essays.

@TheBombingRange, Thanks for your explanation.

But confused why desigirl23 didn’t get into Siena. What desigirl23 didn’t have?

Idk let’s just hope for the best I still have union and rpi wish me luck I hope I get in somewhere out of 12 progs :(

@TheBombingRange and @theking101 has anyone confirmed if the med schools check/dont check mid-year reports?

I honestly don’t know what makes me better than someone else. It is a complete crapshoot. As far as mid year reports, idk why it would matter to the med schools and I don’t think they have the time to care.

Regarding mid-yr reports, I know some programs that require both UG and med school admission need it (like Northwestern HPME, Rice/Baylor, Brown PLME). Otherwise, as thebombingrange said, they don’t care

Again, did anybody else hear any good news from GW or from NJMS?

Nothing from GW but I doubt anything would have been sent out on a Sunday. I have my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I also got an interview from NJMS. I haven’t scheduled it yet though - trying to figure out my travel plans since I live pretty far away. @TheBombingRange, have you scheduled your interview yet?

Congrats bluesky!

Through which ug school did you get the njms interview?

@bluesky2792 I scheduled for Feb 1. They run interviews and tours every day, so do whatever works for you. They even offered me to do last Thursday when I called them last Tuesday. Where do you live? There is plenty of time, which means there is definitely still hope for those who have not heard anything. For anybody who applied to Stevens/NJMS: anybody hear anything from undegrad, or know when we will hear something?

@desigirl I think with your research experience that you would have a good shot at rpi. I am not sure at all of your credentials and you probably already know this but Siena is looking for those who have extraordinarily high hours of community service. I got the impression that they were looking for those whose application oooozed humanitarianism and not necessarily in the medical field.
