*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

Did anyone get an HPME interview acceptance today or does anyone know if they are even sending out invites this week or are they notifying everyone who did not get it this week.

@sadfeet- Didn’t you just call them yesterday and they told you that notifications are being sent until the end of the week? Anyways, why do you ask?

My D also getting also getting same message : "We have completed our review of your application to Penn State and are unable to offer you admission to the campus and/or major of your choice; however, if you would like to be considered for another campus or major, please call or email the Admissions office to be reviewed again.

@starlight27 I am just trying to figure out whether they looked at my application in relation to other kids and then decided to reject me or if they just saw my application for the first time yesterday and then made the decision. Because I don’t think its fair that they already interview some candidates before even looking at some other candidates application. If some people get notified this week about getting accepted for an interview that means they are just looking at applications in batches but if everyone this week is getting rejections then it means they viewed our applications before and we were on some sort of waiting list. I got a rejection yesterday and am still upset about it and trying to figure out why I was notified so late.

My Penn State status hasn’t changed either. I have exactly what @starlight27 and @artiesoneleg1 have.

@Sadfeet- Makes sense. I’m sorry about the rejection. I personally do think it’s a waiting list-- I mentioned that a few pages ago. If it’s not a waiting list and they actually just haven’t looked at our applications, that puts the first people at a slightly unfair advantage (though I understand that they get thousands of applications and it would be impossible to finish it all if they didn’t start interviewing candidates right off the bat). So it really could go either way, I guess we just have to wait it out and see. I’m probably going to be rejected because I know I’m not the strongest candidate out there, but I’ll defs let you know what happens.
Edit: And in any case, you shouldn’t be upset about being rejected because it’s so competitive and so much of it comes down to randomness that their decision couldn’t possibly be a reflection of you as a candidate. You’re such a great applicant, and we’ve all worked so hard through high school, but those facts don’t really guarantee an interview at any program, let alone the most competitive ones like HPME.

This Penn State message is interesting. It’s weird b/c they said that if we aren’t accepted to the program, we will automatically be considered for the Elberly CAS, but it looks like they’re asking applicants to reaffirm their interest in the school, so maybe it doesn’t necessarily signify a rejection. I hope this means Penn State will notify us soon!

Did anybody hear from SLU’s medical scholar program?

@med007 not yet, they said that they would let us know by the 2nd week of March.

Dear Parents and Aspiring Students, I am new to the forum. Wanted to share my daughter has received admission letters from SLU Med Scholar program on March 3rd and NJIT/SGU admission on Feb 14th.

One additional information, she will be attending an Interview with Health Scholar Program at Temple shortly. Keeping fingers crossed.

@AspireMedicDad, did you get the SLU med scholar program notification through email or snail mail

Just checked with SLU admissions on the medical scholar program. They have snail-mailed the decisions. Expect to receive the notification in next few days.

Just had my Brooklyn/Downstate interview today. Supposedly 300 apply, 90 are interviewed, 15 get in, and 30 are wait-listed. They pull people off the wait-list until they have exactly 15 matriculants in each class (this year’s Freshman BA/MD class has 2 kids off the wait-list). The interview itself was conversational, though the interviewers have guiding questions. Also, there were several current students in the interview waiting room to talk to interviewees either before or after our interviews. Everyone in the program seems to really enjoy it and they seem like a very tight-knit group. Also, everyone received a full scholarship for ug (either through Macaulay Honors or Brooklyn Scholars) so college and medical school together come out to $120,000 for all 8 years (if you’re IS), which is awesome. After the interviews, they offer an optional tour at 12:30. They’ll notify us next week of whether we got in or not, so it’s a really quick turnaround! Good luck to everyone who applied!

My daughter had her NJMS interview today. We really liked the school. There was a 12pm tour and lunch after, but since her interview was at 1pm she didn’t get lunch. One of the tour guys brought back 3 students for their interview while the other tour guide brought the 5 others to lunch since their interview was at 2. The interviewer was nice and they had a good discussion. He did say he didn’t recommend the accelerated route but it was just a mention. Typical questions of why medicine, why accelerated, experience, etc. He said they will release decisions the first week in April, they would contact the ug and they would notify the student. Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone else have updates on their Penn State/Jefferson portals?

@med007 - My D received the MedScholar admission (In a PDF file) email from the SLU UG admissions councilor. I am told snail mail will be arriving shortly.

@starlight27 mine still says the same thing as before

Do VCU GMED decisions come out on March 15th?

@1268623 last year they came out at March 17th, so hopefully around there

Anyone hear from Rice/Baylor?
