Hey guys! I start my first semester at UF in the fall & was wondering what to expect from this course. Has anyone else taken BSC 2009 with Jill Holliday? Or any course with her for that matter. Or this course with a different professor. Lol. Its only offered online, which i worry about a little. I have no experience with online classes. Especially at the UF level. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

PS: my major is nursing. Not that it even matters for this thread.

I am also taking Exceptional People, What is the good life, and Human Growth and Development.

Look her up on ratemyprofessor.com and see what others had to say about her class.

I did… but she’s never been rated for the course. Oh well… guess it will just be a surprise.

RateMyProfessor is kind of useless anyway, in my experience reality and RMP ratings rarely correspond.

If you are interested in real data, you can go to: Error - UF Faculty Evaluations;

Once there, do not login, click on “Public Results” in the top left. Then enter the instructor’s name. You can view ratings by students from courses they have taught in the past for several years.

Even if they haven’t been reviewed for the course you are taking, you can still get a small picture of what they are like.

I guess it depends. The website has been on point for me, atleast 95% of the time, and I’ve picked all professors based on the site for years.

Thank you! She still isn’t listed on that website for 2009. Is that something I should worry about? I hope it isn’t her first time teaching the course

Hi Shelby! I am a freshman at UF and am planning on taking BSC 2009 online next semester…how did it go for you? How did you like your professor?

Hey! I’m not the original person who posted this, but I am currently a freshman taking BSC 2009 online and I can tell you about it.
I was disappointed at first that this class was only offered online, and really nervous about how the class would go. However, the class is a pretty easy A and at the same time I feel like I have learned a lot. I have Matthew Smith as my professor, and all the assignments and quizzes have been online. There are multiple assignments each week where you get points for watching a video, or for doing practice questions regardless of whether or not you get the right answers. The work can take up a lot of time, but it still is not as intense as other science classes. I have really enjoyed taking the online class because there are more resources like links to videos, interactive websites, and graphics that really help you understand the material and make it more interesting.
The lab section (BSC 200L) is also not too difficult, but you do have to spend some time studying for quizzes and you have to put in a decent amount of effort on homework because your grade is based on graded homework and quizzes.

Thank you so much for your help, that’s exactly what I needed to hear. I just hate going into classes blindly, so thanks so much for the information! I hope you do well!!
