First Semester Schedule! Thoughts?

I'll be starting in the fall. Considering double majoring in sports management and advertising. Here's the schedule that I've come up with so far...I don't attend Preview until July 1-2.

MAC 1105 Basic College Algebra (3 credits) - I hate math! I want to take the easiest math classes possible..at least to start off with.
BSC 2010 (Integrated Principles of Biology) with BSC 2010 L (4 credits altogether)
First- Year Florida (1 credit)
SPM 2000C Intro to Sports Management (2 credits) - this is supposed to be a web class...will I need a webcam for this?
MMC2604 Mass Media and You (3 credits)
ANT 2000 General Anthropology (3 credits) - It seemed interesting to me.

That adds up to be 16 credits. Is this too difficult for my first semester? I will be coming in with probably about 40+ credits from AP classes so I know that I at least have the option of taking less classes. Also, I heard from someone that you have to take at least 15 credits a semester to received Bright Futures. Is this true? Thanks!

I heard first year florida was a lot of work for one credit…and not worth it.

It’s worth it because my biggest scholarship in my aid package depends on it. Florida Opportunity Scholars.

Nothing there looks too challenging, in my opinion. It isn’t a hard schedule, overall.

I have never heard of one of the web classes requiring a webcam, since generally the way they work is that the “lectures” are prerecorded, so you watch them at your leisure, then they have some sort of testing program to ensure you do it within the allotted time.

I’m fairly certain the Bright Futures requirement is just 12 credits (the same as the requirement for being a full time student). I know for a fact it isn’t 15. National Merit requires 15 credits a semester.

I agree that First Year Florida is really stupid, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

thats a pretty basic schedule. how are you going in with so many credits but only taking intro classes? specifically, math

Well so far I have passed AP Psychology, World History, US History, Human Geography and Language & Comp. I’m taking English Lit, European History, Environmental Science, Government and Economics this year…I expect to pass all of those exams except for Econ.

I’m interested in a few upper level psychology and history classes and I wanted to take Principles of Advertising (that requires sophomore standing which I should get.) I guess I’m trying to not make my first semester too difficult. If there’s any classes that you suggest I would love to hear about them!

If you need help determining what specific sections of those classes to take, look into using [GatorSchedule.Net .:. Course Search](http://www.gatorschedule.net)

It’ll help you craft your week schedule to your liking.

Fair disclosure: I developed GatorSchedule, but I generate absolutely no positive revenue (technically its a money sink since I pay to host it, but thats neither here nor there ) from it. Its a useful tool that UF itself should have developed, but oh well. I only ask that if you like it you spread the word about it, and if you don’t, drop a comment as to why so I can improve it.

It looks like a good load. my best advice is that if you even do slightly less than what you would like, GET HELP! I didn’t get help until the end of my semester because I was a cocky freshman that had straight As in college and the help really does help. Make friends in class too!

Looks like a simple schedule. However, I would recommend going with 13 credits rather than 16. Simply because it’s your first semester.

And as a fellow FOS student, I can tell you that First Year Florida is going to be a good experience. I truly enjoyed it my first year and made lots of friends. And trust me, you’ll have some more boring stuff to do as requirements (about 3-4 workshops before your sophomore year is over).
