BU - Admitted into BME and honors -with 10k Scholarship. Can we appeal for more?

My D got admitted into the BioMedical Engg and admitted into the Honors college too.
She was awarded 10k scholarship per annum.
The total Cost for 2013-2014 amounts to $64.5k. With 10k we still need to pay $55k.

She really wants to go to BU. Is there anyway we can appeal to the financial aid office to consider her for more scholarship.(atleast another 10k).
We were expecting atleast Presidential… She really likes to go to BU.

She also got admitted into:

UCSD - BioMedical/Bio-informatics program (honors college) - (52k/yr as OOS)
UICU - Chemical Engg (45k/yr as OOS)
SUNY-Stonybrook - WISE program (Honors) in Biomedical Engg - (19k/yr as OOS after scholarships)
UCONN - Biomedical Engg (Honors program) - (20k/yr as Instate)

And awaiting results for
Cornell
UC-Berkeley.

Please advice. I appreciate your time and inputs a lot which will help us to decide.

Thanks
psr251

Probably not because it seems a lot of the FA packages are more or less final.

55k per year for 4 years = 220k will be a really heavy burden…!! Not sure, whether we can bear this…

psr251 – my son received Presidential, I believe because he was a National Merit Finalist. Otherwise, I’m not sure he would have received that.

Then contact FA or don’t go.

I would definitely talk to a Financial Office representative. If you agree to go to the Open House (visit BU) you can talk to a representative that same day (it’s on the invitation. you can see your RSVP online). You can always try and ask. I’m going to be doing the same :)

i was also wondering if i could appeal. UConn is cheaper for my family, by a few thousand dollars. If I could pursuade BU to give me a little more in grants, my parents would probably allow me to enroll

@psr251, may i know your D’s stats please? because i am a junior, and want to see whether i ahve a chance as an OOS

What BU looks for in a student varies each year, we can’t give you a “chance”

@tigerash
BU is a private university. Whether you are in state or out of state doesn’t matter.
(Or are you international?)

oh lol sorry for the confusion, i am just out of state, so it doesn’t matter

[Appeal for Reconsideration » Financial Assistance | Boston University](http://www.bu.edu/finaid/apply/special-circumstances/reconsideration/)

you can try to appeal for more. hey it doesn’t hurt to try right? :)
