bu, brandeis, boston college and univ of rochester

which one is the best overall......which one has the most name recognition for prestige?

all are close in terms of selectivity and prestige. my guess would be brandeis or boston college, but they are all close.

If these are schools you are interested in, apply to all of them. :)

hey thanks a lot...really appreciate it....as of now, ive been accepted to all of them as a transfer student so im just looking into the most prestigious school....any more advice would help too....also, do u think brandeis is the fastest growing out of them and in the future will have more prestige espec since its still young and was already offered ivy league invitation (i think)

The ivy league will not expand, and its members are not linked by quality alone, but by an old athletic division.
I'm inclined to think Rochester is the fastest growing of the four. What are you planning on majoring in? That makes a big difference.

I've visited most of these schools. In fact Brandeis and Univ of Roch along with Cornell were my son's final 3. He chose Univ of Rochester. It's a beautiful campus, great programs and everyone there seemed very happy there.

None of those have enough "prestige" to worry about. There are only a few that actually do and the impact of even that is not very great.

im doin predental studies...however im not lookin to go to the best school in the sciences (which i bet is univ of rochester).....im lookin for the one with the most name recognition for prestige (which i think is brandeis for academic circles)....and i think brandeis might also be growing more than the others because its young.....furthermore, i went to univ of rochester yesterday...nice and everything but im afraid the weather is depressing!......(comparing both rochester and brandeis, barely does ne1 kno bout rochester and those that do think of rit, sucks!)

it depends wat ur looking for but NO1 KNOWS urochester lol, bu is good for international things and bc is good for med....

They are all pretty close. Prestige really is in the eye of the beholder to a large degree and difficult to measure. Personally, although they are all very good schools, I don't think that BU or BC have the same status as the other 2. And there are some college guidebooks that include Brandeis in the "elite" status and not the others. But it is also fair to say that they each have very distinct personalities and you really need to consider other things besides "prestige" when you are talking about schools this close.

If you do well at any one of those schools, you will get into dental school, no problem. Pick the one where you'll be happiest.

URochester, Brandeis, Bu or BC. Rochester has much older aacademic tradition-as Brandeis is fairly young school. Both BU and BC were commuter schools until 20-30 years ago.

yea i understand that.....however, wat do u think is the best overall option....im lookin more into brandeis, bu and bc.....im asian indian so bc might be a little extreme but im fine with that still.....bu is cool and it has a good rep since its so big but i guess the grade deflation and lack of personal attention is the thumbs down....brandeis is nice but i jus feel as if ppl dont kno it enough (correct me if im wrong)....any more advice would be nice

I'm also considering Brandeis and BC, but I was wondering if anyone could offer any insight about the different campus cultures (other than the obvious religious differences) and academic strengths/weaknesses?

The culture of Brandeis is clearly one of openness, tolerance, acceptance and intellectual cultivation. I was very inpressed with the degree that learning, education and all aspects of intellectual and personal development were stressed as part of the brandeis experience. I have not spent a great deal of time on the BC campus but I lived in Boston for 7 years. I think that they try to maintain academic freedom in the face of a very conservative and dogmatic catholic leadership (Rome). But it is still a catholic institution. For example, I doubt that you will find much acceptance of gays and lesbians on campus, whereas at Brandeis that community is clearly accepted as part of the general student population. But I don't know how the religious overview impacts other areas of campus and itellectual life at BC.
