BU Campus Days!

So next weekend I’m headed up to Boston to go to the April 15th campus day. I’m wondering if I should call and ask for someone to stay with overnight, since I don’t know anyone there. It just seems weird to me that they didn’t suggest that at all in the invitation to the campus, so maybe its not a good idea? I dunno, have any of you done it?

They assume that you live locally, will stay in a hotel, or already have friends around Boston. I remember them having a few spots open for parents and children to stay during orientation, but not Freshman Friday.

Heres how we remember it from last year. Students could stay overnight in the dorm during BU Day for accepted students and they roomed you with a current student so you could ask questions. At some point they run out of spots so then you stay in a hotel with your parents or alone I guess unless you call and see if they can get you a roomate if your parenst are not attending. Or you can choose a different April date if they have dorm openings. You attend student events all day and your parents go to a program for parents if they want.
Its different for orientation. You stay in the dorms for about 3 days. Last year everyone stayed at Rich Hall. in West. The parents could stay on campus. Because we thought that meant it was in a "regular" dorm, with communal bathrooms, with the purpose of paremts getting a feel for real campus life, we declined and stayed a block away at the Hotel Commonwealth which was one of the hotels with a special BU rate. Well, it turned out the parents got to stay in the Student Village for a nominal fee and each parent/couple had their own suite/apartment and private bath. At night there was a reception with the Dean of Students, for parents, he wore a tux, with live classical music, quite nice. It was in the penthouse of the Studenty Village building and the entire floor was this reception room so there were amazing views of Boston from the wall to wall windows wherever you looked. We wished we stayed there since parents also had an opportunity to attend a parent dinner at the top of the Prudential building--I think thats the one---renowned I guess as a toursit must see. Any parent could have gone but it looked like those that stayed in the Village got to know eachother better and were more likely to attend the BU sponsored parent events. We pretty much explored Boston on our own and attended some of the scheduled parent events while resisting the urge to call our s's cell to check on him.

Dogs, thanks for the heads up about the parents dorm. I was wondering if it meant communal bathrooms! I assume the beds had sheets, blanket, pillow, and soap and towels were provided. Did your S arrive early for orientation? I know kids can arrive as early as Tuesday night. We lose a whole day getting to the East Coast and I'm thinking of coming for Tuesday night. I don't want S to be jet-lagged on Thursday.

I did not fully remember. Once again, thank you dogs! I haven't been batting very well recently. My apologies to those affected. . .

what time do the campus sessions actually start?? bc when i got my acceptance packet in the mail, the flyer said that registration was at 8:30am... so then does it mean i have to be there by 8:30 or is that for people who havent rsvp-ed or something?

I think I'm missing something here- help! I signed up on-line to the admitted students day- COM - on Friday the 15th. I already made hotel reservations, and I have not received a confirmation from BU, although I have received a couple of e-mails from them about orientation. Should I call them?

you should prob call them just in case, but did you receive emails about the orientation (which is after you accepted your place) or about the open house? because i got emails for the orientation too, but no confirmation email for the open house. i signed up online for the april 22nd open house and shortly after i submitted the rsvp application, a confirmation page popped up and i printed it-- this is to be used as your ticket.. but def call them. i just need to know what time it starts!
