BU, GW, University of Rochester, UConn, UPitt for pre med

I have recently been accepted to BU (no scholarship), GW Honors (25,000 per year scholarship), University of Rochester (13,000 per year scholarship), UConn Honors (total cost would be 15,000 per year), and UPitt (no scholarship). I am very confused about where to go. My favorite campus by far is GW but I am afraid that the science programs are not strong enough there… I also like Rochester and BU but BU seems very very expensive. I don’t know too much at UPitt and UConn is my state school. Any input?

Thanks so much!

URoch receives a mention in “The Experts’ Choice: Colleges with Great Pre-med Programs,” should this resource seem useful to you. As the most selective school among your choices, UR may warrant additional consideration in any event.

What makes you say that about GW? People say that about Georgetown too. Is it because it’s in DC and known for political science?

Both schools have medical schools so you would think they would know how to prepare undergrads.

@OnTheBubble I just saw GW for an admitted students day and I was surprised by how little percent of the student body is in science (I think they said 7% science majors and 5% engineers) I also was underwhelmed by the research facilities and lab tour. But I would love to be wrong about that because I absolutely loved the campus and the school!

Thank you so much for your input. I will check out that web page!

You realize that students major in poetry and take the prequisites and get accepted to medical school.

I know but I want to major in biology so I would like a strong program. I am just wondering whether GW has a strong science program because I didn’t get that vid from the admitted students day. @OnTheBubble

Please post net prices and your budget, not “25,000” per year scholarship!

See if you can find out how many Bio majors from GW apply to and get accepted to med school.

If you like GW, chances are, you’ll like Pitt as both are urban campuses. Pitt is a known pre-med school here in PA. URoc is too, of course, (my middle son goes to URoc), but whether I’d recommend it to you depends upon whether you can financially afford it or not. If so, yes, very highly recommended. If you’d have to take out major loans (your parents), then it’s probably better to select a more affordable school.

I can’t compare BU or UConn.
