Simply, honors usually provides more opportunities to distinguish yourself, esp, through research. Take advantage of it, and you’ll look back and see that it was probably life changing. You may have opportunities to do so w/o honors but honors provides more opportunities. All else being equal, why not give yourself an advantage?

Wait…we just went from “assuming they are all fairly equal” to “all else being equal.” Which is it? I suppose it might matter if you have two schools sharing the same size, location, ranking, cost, and academic quality in your field of study. I’m not sure those two schools exist though.

this year honors college sucked.
i am a trustee so i am dropping it next year…since i don’t need it for resume buffing
might be better next year, but this year it was a waste of time

Lemonio - thx for the info. What sucked most about it? Professors, classes, certain extra requirements? Appreciate the feedback.

the class i took first semester sucked.
then the studio course next semester sucked.
my current seminar course is good, because its a very notable professor.

overall, the problems are
- requirements. CAS doesn’t remove your requirements if you take UHC, so you have less time to take courses of your own choice.
- the honors college organized events are random and boring
- its not a cohesive program

i would do UHC if i had an unlimited amount of time.
i don’t.
i’d rather take courses on my own with normal students.

That does suck. UHC courses should take the place of CAS requirements; if not, that doesn’t make much sense. Like you said, it doesn’t sound cohesive or structured correctly. Thanks much for the insight!

I disagree with Lemonio. I’m a current UHC freshman, and I think the program is awesome. While it is in it’s first year, and certainly not for everyone, it is a really great and significant program. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in my new UHC thread!

just making straight that UHC does count towards divisional studies in CAS. just saying.

nope. it does not…sadly
you need to use UHC to satisfy your writing requirement, and if you use it for that, you can’t use it for divisionals

My name is Jamal and I’m from texas. I think BU is awesome!!
