Honors Program

Can anybody elaborate on the BU honors program? I’m trying to decide between schools and haven’t been able to find much information on it. What kind of advantages does it offer to the students involved in terms of attention, professor interaction? What’s honors housing like? Whats the workload like?

I really love BU and the quality/organization of the honors program is a huge factor in my decision whether or not to go there.

what school are you in?

college of arts and sciences...political science major

I too would like to hear about BU's honors program.
I have been accepted at the Honors program at CAS and am a Eco major.

please..does ANYONE know anything about the BU honors program??!

I don't know about it but I found this link:

Honors Program | College of Arts and Sciences | Boston University

Yeah, sorry, I got into the School of Management Honors Program. I have had two freshmen at BU contact through e-mail and phone offering to answer any questions I have, so maybe that will happen to you also.

All I know is that my nephew was in honors (graduated in 07) and the honors housing was great. He chose not to do honors housing freshman year and was really sorry about that choice, as he's a pretty studious guy and lived in a high-rise hotel with 24-7 partiers and tv-watchers. His Sophomore and Jr housing was in a Bay Shore (is that the name?) townhouse--NICE! Senior along the river in another townhouse, also very nice and quiet. Otherwise, I have no idea.

thank you! ha apparently the honors program is revamping this year? so its been almost impossible to find anything on it...and with like three weeks to make a final decision

did anyone get information on the honors program in their admissions packet? i only even know i'm in because it told me in the decision online...was there another letter that they sent out or something?

I have a child in the Honors program, it is called the University Professor's Program. An amazing program that easily competes with any Ivy league education. Here is the link to the now discontinued program. Currently enrolled students will continue in this program

Here is a recent article that tells about its "weaker" replacement.

"New College" to Replace UNI | BU Today

Its very sad to see this decision being made because the UNI program is one of the most unique, wonderful, academic programs available in the country.
Current UNI students are very upset by this change.

UNI is not the CAS honors program. That's one reason they're getting rid of UNI. See the thread about the "New College."

My mistake Lergnom, thanks for the clarification. (still bothered by the change though) Even though it is not a well known program, it is a hidden jewel of BU that benefits both professors and students. Its sad for the students and, in some cases, even sadder for the professors who will lose their positions.

The professors aren't going to lose AFAIK. Most are senior staff who teach on a limited basis, but more to the point since UNI has been the "top" school at BU the school is not likely to want to get rid of those teachers.

I live a block from school and my kids went to local schools and we never heard of UNI until after the applications were in. That speaks volumes.

The fact that most don't know about it shouldn't make it an easy target for extinction. I am not sure what volumes that speaks. Information about it has always been provided on the BU website. Is this not the way most prospective students learn about a school's offerings? I understand that you are a wealth of info on BU and I have benefitted from many of your comments. You seem quite diplomatic on most issues, so I respect your comments. Not trying to start anything here.
The professors are losing AFAIK.

sorry emma090690, I know I didn't help with my misconception - I will duck out of here and let those who can help you, post ;). Good Luck!

DD is in the Honors Program at BU. If I remember correctly, if you were in the top 5% or 10% of the incoming freshman class, you were admitted into the honors program. To be honest, she has had some difficulty in getting into some of the honors courses and many of them are reserved for "upper classmen". She had quite a few AP credits and the underclass honors classes would have repeated some work she had already done. Overall, she said the program is not a big deal and they don't really work hard to make it into something that works for the students.
