Hi! I was wondering if anyone could share some insight on the cheapest living options for BU- whether that be through BU housing or elsewhere. Let me know!
There are no cheap housing options in Boston. Freshmen are required to live on campus.
Tom is right. Boston, like most cities, is very expensive. The cheapest might just be the dorms. I would stay clear of illegal housing where 10 kids share a two bedroom apartment. Not very fun to be stacked like cordwood.
I’m not a freshman, so I can live off campus. I’ve heard some people sublet rooms in houses?
Can confirm that Boston is extremely expensive. I live in Waltham and I’ve been watching rents climb during my short six months of residency. Your best bet is probably to check Craigslist, Trulia, Zillow, and local newspapers for non-BU related housing options. From what I’ve seen, rooms go for $800+ easy.
If you want to live somewhere cheap off campus I would recommend Allston. Kind of dangerous, but definitely the cheapest off campus option near BU
Allston dangerous? It isn’t Wellesley but it is not a bad neighborhood.
@TomSrOfBoston only speaking from my experience. I have had many friends who have been assaulted while walking or had their homes in allston robbed. Also, BU students get alerts about shootings/stabbings there almost weekly. It is definitely not nearly as safe as the other off-campus locations BU students stay in such as Brookline or Kenmore and is generally regarded as a scary place to be by students.
