Hey guys,

I really need your help. I’m stuck between USC (University of Southern California) and BU. I live in the Bay Area (near San Francisco, CA) and I’ve been admitted to both schools! Any advice?

Thanks

Well that would depend on what type of school you are looking for, what environment you want to be in, what coast you prefer, what you want to study, etc. Obviously there are a ton of factors. No one can just go and say, "Oh well one is better than the other".

usc no doubt

I'm from CA and I'm picking BU over USC.

Really, it depends on you and no one else.

Some people like Boston University's location more than USC. Having visited both, I would say BU has a better location (NOT campus, just location).

Also, the people telling you to pick USC no doubt probably only look at the USNews general ranking. You have to look for your specific department. For example, BU is better in math and econ, my two majors.

And don't forget to think about whether or not you really want to leave SoCal. Boston is a bit different (especially weather wise) so really think about whether or not you want to be in a different part of the country.

Good luck choosing, I really don't think you can go wrong either way!

I'm in the same boat! (deciding between BU and USC med programs, however). I agree that it's not an easy decision to make. however, i'm an east-coaster. Thus, while you may be more comfortable with USC, I'd probably be more comfortable with BU, just cuz I'm used to that sort of atmosphere. On the other hand, going to opposite sides of the country would be a bit of an adventure, wouldn't it? Good luck :-)

i go to BU, but I would have picked USC

ahhh! this sucks! im going to SC for explore USC day on the 27th! i just bookoed tickets to Boston for the 28th! doesnt really give me much time to make up my mind by may 1st! i really love SC but theres a part of me thats just always wanted to so back east and experience something so new - but if i wanna go into communications and the music industry, maybe SC is the better choice...also, does anyone know anything about the gay scenes in either Boston or LA?

boston it is big- BU has a big gay presence, boston is a very gay friendly city.

LA- not so much.

you went to san ramon. my little brother is a junior there. i went to las lomas.

is that to say that LA is gay "unfriendly"?

there's going to be people who don't take too kindly to your kind in any part of the country. that was half sarcasm half truth

LA is for a large part about status and salaries. I can't speak about USC (which has a reputation for being a very snotty rich school), but for the most part money gets you anywhere in LA. While gay lifestyles aren't necesarily frowned upon in LA, Boston is very open and accepting- which is evident by Mass being the first state to allow marriage.

Visit both schools, see where you feel comfortable. You will know in a minute or two which is your school, don't worry about making th deadline...after walking around USC and LA and then BU and Boston- one will stick out and call your name
