What is BU’s reputation in the boston area? Do big corporate employers generally want to hire BU students? Do they prefer them over the other surrounding schools such as Northeastern? Basically I just want to know if BU has a good reputation.
BU has a great reputation in Boston. It’s one of the more competitive schools in Boston (and everyone knows the academics are good there), plus of course it’s massive–you can’t live in Boston/do business there without being aware of BU (and BC, MIT, Harvard, etc.). For a lot of programs/majors, yes, it has a stronger reputation than Northeastern. For media, especially journalism, BU has a better rep because it is top ranked in those fields. Other majors… I don’t know specifically, but BU kids manage to get very nice jobs in Boston all the time, so BU must not hurt them, right?
What are you looking to get into? What are your other school options? I mean, BU will hardly count against you with Boston area corporations… but it won’t automatically get you a job, either, if that makes sense. The only industry that I know personally has a “BU mafia” is film & TV… but not in Boston (New York, LA).
@proudterrier I will be attending BU in the fall and I will be going into COM for public relations. Thank you so much for your thoughts, I was just wondering how my career placement would be after BU and if employers would look favorably at a BU degree
@laurrodes Employers will look favorably on a BU degree. They will also look favorably on a Northeastern, BC, Tufts etc. degree. But mostly they will look at you and what you accomplished in your 4 years at the school.
