BU Transfer Students

I’m not really international, although I have same situation with international student. I don’t take high school in US. I’ve a toefl of 106. I didn’t explain it because I thought I’m exempted. I could give a very good explanation. Imagine I got my US immigration interview during my A-Levels test ( I would say A-Levels is 10 times toughest than US course works, I studied for 2 full months non-stop to memorize 3 thick books, every details). At that time, not only I’ve to study my A Levels, I’ve to prepare for immigration interview, which my mom worries so much. Also, I’ve to take SAT and Toefl. Of course I would not study SAT, because I spend 2 years effort in A Levels, but just suddenly know things like SAT. I don’t even know how important is SAT and US school ranking at that time.

Well, I guess there is no harm in trying to contact BU and seeing if they will let you explain your situation. Sorry I couldn’t answer your questions; you have a very specific case. Best of luck.

thk you for your advice, mgm91. I’ll try to contact BU

anyone accepted???

My applicant link still hasn’t changed yet. Has yours?

Mine hasn’t changed either. It’s complete, but no word.

I’m not keeping my hopes up until May at the earliest

Change from complete to a decision? Nope. Still losing sleep over this…I should be getting my decision by May 1st too, ahhhh.

I hear the BU transfer acceptance rate is actually fairly low, especially in comparison to their freshman acceptance rate. Since getting denied from UNC, I’m getting more and more nervous as time passes. Anyway:

Applying as a sophomore
HS Stats:
GPA: 2.99 after junior year, could be around a 3.0 including senior year (unusual circumstance that I didn’t explain too specifically that brought my GPA down in freshman year)
SATs: 1340/1980
SAT US Hist: 720
SAT Lit: 670
SAT Math 1: 650
ECs: Features editor for school paper, Volunteer for Student Government, Producer/cameraman for school’s televised morning announcements, all in all not too much
Work experience: Busboy->Team Captain at a restaurant, held the job for about 5 years now
8 AP’s, National AP Scholar: 5’s on 5 of the tests, 4’s on the others, mostly honors and AP courses in high school

College stats:
Student at UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) History/Communications major
GPA: 3.667
61 credits at the end of the semester (including APs), not sure how many are transferable.
ECs: Member of the First Year Council, the freshman branch of the student government;
Cadet in the United States Air Force, looking to possibly pursue a career in the USAF; contributing writer to my school’s newspaper

buusey: your stats are better than mine (aside from the HS GPA), so you’re probably in a better position than I am…best of luck!

wow, I really am losing sleep over this. It’s almost 3:00AM…

Yeah those are higher than mine too. I got in as a freshman applicant, but I don’t think I’ll be accepted as a transfer because my college GPA from the first semester is a low 3.17.

Thanks guys! I’m definitely really feeling the whole getting away thing now as the summer gets closer.

and not to sound like a jerk/tool/neurotic anything, but I just can’t figure out how I would have good chances for this school if I was straight up rejected from UNC. I’m guessing it would have to do with the fact that I switched one of my courses to P/F as it wasn’t even required by my major or GE’s. or maybe it was because 34/61 credits were from AP’s…and the college GPA is only from 9 credits technically.

I apologize for my rant. Just nervous, that’s all.

Good luck to everyone!

is it UNC Chapel Hill?

Chapel Hill is a much more competitive institution than Boston University. Both are great schools, but I wouldn’t fret over the denial from UNC.

US News ranks Chapel hill as 28th in the nation, and BU as 60th.

Yeah it was Chapel Hill. thanks, but I’m still fretting over BU since I hear their transfer rate is only in the 30’s percentage wise.

they haven’t even started reviewing applications because this week is the last week to submit. Don’t expect to hear a decision until mid to late may.

I doubt that they would wait until the deadline comes to start reviewing everyone’s application and let it all pile up. But we probably wouldn’t hear our decision before they’re done with everyone’s, though, so you may be right. I don’t think I can wait much longerrrr.

buusey, the year before I applied, their freshman acceptance rate was ~30%. The year I applied, their acceptance rate jumped to ~50% and now I think its ~60%.

While thats their regular admission rate, not sure how fluctuating the transfer acceptance rate could have been. They also seem to accept a whole lot more females than males in transfers, too. I wonder why.

I got in!

I just got the e-mail!! I got into CAS! I applied late - past the deadline, so I have no idea what kind of order they are doing this in. But Yay!

I got in as well. When do we find out financial aid?

I just got the email tonight. Accepted to COM for Journalism.

no Financial Aid… hope we find out sooon

meant to say COC
