There seems to be a vast misconception that BU is harder to get into than NU, when in reality, I know a lot of people who got rejected/waitlisted by NU but into BU.

NU has now far surpassed BU in selectivity, and it’s always had a better campus and social life/ party scene. Plus, it is the #1 job placement school in the country.

The rankings will catch up eventually; they’re a lagging indicator.

PS- I’m not just saying this… my friends at BU say they wish they went to NU instead.

BU is still a good school; I just know I was faced with the decision between the two schools in the end, and I’m glad I chose Northeastern.

(Sorry to bump an old thread; I came across it on Google but I assumed others would soon be facing this commonly made choice.)

The reason why NU is number one in job placement is because of the co-op program. If you want to go to school for 5 years and work full time for several semesters, that’s your choice.

I don’t think the night life and party scene is any different…they’re uh, both in Boston.

I also have to agree to disagree with you on the campus. I think BU’s campus is gorgeous, and it’s in a much better part of Boston in my opinion.

BU may no longer be as selective, but that’s because our application pool has been increasing significantly over the past few years, where most other schools have stagnated. When more qualified applicants apply, you can afford to let more in.

obviously people in this thread will be biased, but I dunno, I tend to think the two schools are quite different. It depends what kind of education you want. If you want more a traditional liberal arts-y education with lots of opportunity for research, I think BU is your best bet. If you’re interested in experential learning and doing the co-op thing, go to Northeastern. Other than the fact that both schools are in Boston, they’re pretty different. I happened to love love love BU, so I’ll obviously tell you to come here :)
