BU vs Smith

I got accepted to both schools, and I am super conflicted right now. I plan on majoring in engineering. Can someone help?

I get the feeling that you’re hesitant about Smith because they only have an engineering department whereas BU has a college of engineering.

However, BU only offers 4 undergraduate engineering majors (mech eng, EE, computer eng, and biomedical engineering). Smith only offers a general engineering degree, but their program covers those 4 areas. Along with perhaps taking a course or two at UMass (or via junior year study-away), you could put together an equivalent program that concentrates in one of those areas.

You’ve indicated an interest in chemical engineering. BU doesn’t offer chemical engineering at all. At Smith, you could take chemical engineering courses at UMass via the Five College consortium, or at Princeton via the Smith-Princeton junior year study-away program. A couple of the Smith engineering professors have chemical engineering degrees, so they would be qualified to help you put together a course of study that concentrates in chemical engineering.
