BU vs. UW-major eco,political-sci,pre-law

i still need help...i havnt recieved my financial aid packet from UW yet, but BU will only give me $5625...so yea...and going to UW (for me because i live in washington) would be like going to a tier 2 school...so i REALLY have no idea where to submit my letter of intent...if you guys could give me a real good case for either or, that would be really helpful...i also want to major in either economics, political science or pre-law...ANY help would be great...thanks

-an extremely coufused guy...

Boston University

is there a reason? haha

washington is not a 2nd tier school.

its ranked MUCH higher in poli sci/economics than bu and is ranked higher overall by usnews.

You have a strangely low opinion of UW. It is an excellent school, hardly 2nd tier. Even if the cost were equal, there would not be much to recommend BU over UW, unless you have a strong desire to see another part of the country.

Is money a concern? BU will be much more expensive for you even with the $5625 financial aid. UDup costs you less than $6K for in-state tuition. And living in Boston is more expensive than in Seattle.

UDup also has the edge in academics as it's a better overall school. Of course there is the concern of being too close to home.

You already posted a thread on this, didn't you?

This is EASY. BU is a great school, but it is NOT better than UWashington. Plus, BU is one of the most expensive schools in the country... and it is very large and impersonal. Your classes would be just as large as BU as at UW. I like BU, but it is NOT worth the money... certainly not worth it when you got an excellent flagship public university like Washington.

i am in no way calling UW a tier 2 school...its just that as an asian going to UW, it would be the biggest cliche...i dunno...is someone could make a REAL strong argument...then ill listen...

GoBlue, have you priced an apartment (let alone a house) in the city of Seattle lately. Believe me, the cost of housing in Seattle and Boston aren't that different. And I am intimately familiar with both areas. If an applicant is going to make a decision based on housing, well then, the UW has significantly greater dorm space than BU. No knock on BU. Boston is a great town for college students. And the BU area is lively.

According to the official site of each school:

Room & Board:
BU - $10,080
UW - $7,164

Tuition:
BU - $31,530
UW - $5,610 (in-state)

For off-campus, a 2-BDRM apartment around the UW campus runs about $1000 for a 11-month lease. How much do you have to pay for similar lodging around BU?
