Ok, so I posted this once before but to give you the brief I have decided that I am either going to apply early decision to Bucknell or Connecticut College. Both are great school academically and I am fine with the locations of each. Since both are so similar in terms of this stuff the one thing that I am not to sure about is the social scene and specifically the drinking. I am not a drinker and I was wondering if anyone knew how big the drinking scenes were at these colleges. I’ve heard Bucknell’s social life revolves around frats and parties but I’ve also heard that there are a lot of people drinking at Conn. Overall, what I’m wondering is will I fit in if I don’t drink and what activities are there to do an night and on weekends that don’t involve drinking?

You will find drinking at most schools. Bucknell is no exception. However, my D was an RA at Bucknell and knew of students and activities that did not involve drinking. The president of Bucknell also just eliminated Spring Party Weekend, which was a big drinking weekend.

But drinking still is a big part of the social scene as in many, most, colleges.

My daughter also looked at both colleges as well as University of Richmond. She is not a drinker. She loved the atmosphere at Bucknell best and has decided to apply ED.

thats great to know. Thanks for the responses. I think I’m leaning toward Bucknell right now

No matter where you go, there’s going to be drinking on college campuses. At Bucknell there are a lot of other things to do besides party. There is an organization that plans non-drinking events on the weekends like bowling, Activities and Campus events plans an event every weekend whether it be decorating bucknell pride stuff or holiday themed. There are performing arts events as well. If you don’t go out, you will be sure to find other people who don’t as well.
