Bucknell University VS Connecticut College??

Ok so right now I've narrowed down my choices to Bucknell and Conn College. Both are great academically and I visited both campus and like each of them equally. Overall the schools are pretty similar. The only thing I'm not too familiar with is the social life at Bucknell and Conn. I did do an over night at Conn and there was a good amount of partying and drinking, but I have also heard that frats and drinking dominates Bucknell social life. The only problem with this is that I DON'T DRINK! I think I like Bucknell more based on academics, but if I don't drink. Will I be left out and have nothing to do while I'm not in class(And if I wont be left out, what activities is there to do?)? Any knowledge on the social lives of either Bucknell or Conn College students would be great! thanks so much!

It’s too early for you narrow down your choices. You can’t have been admitted yet, have you?
You should apply to both, along with quite a few others. Then, once you have received your admission letters (and, if relevant, your financial aid package), will you play the College X vs. university Z card.
As for the drinking situation, it’s true it is an important part of “social life”* at Bucknell. But that’s not to say it’s less so at Connecticut.
You might want to look for colleges that are similar to both but have less of a drinking culture.
A tip off (typically) is a large fraternity culture (although not only, and some fraternities are dry - you could email and ask if there are any dry faternities, if the answer if a guffaw, i.e;, unthinkable, you have the information you want about drinking and social life…).

 • “” because I don’t quite know how you can consider drinking to the point of not knowing what you’re saying “social”. As a friend once said “Being friends isn’t the same thing as throwing up together”.

I really want to go early decision to one of them and luckily money isn’t an issue for what school I go to. I know there is drinking at both and you’ll pretty much never get away from drinking at any college. I dont really care if other people are drinking I just dont like to drink. I guess what I’m asking is will there be stuff for me to do at night and on the weekends if im not drinking at Bucknell/Conn College? And is there people like me?

I recently Visited both, and from my impression Connecticut is a way more artsy/active community than Bucknell. Some students told me that they were attending 3 performances this weekend, and there would be more to choose from. The students at bucknell told me that there was a business school preparation seminar that almost everyone attended, and a frat party that they had successfully slept their way into. It was a major turnoff for me, and Connecticut is still on the list  it has a little bit of a preppy vibe, but most students seemed nice and normal. Only the male lacrosse team was eating by itself and not talking to anyone but themselves. Plus, the location is also a positive. This is a very subjective impression though, so don’t take this as a gold standard of any sort. For you, the right choice might be very different!

You may want to post your question in the college specific forums, there might be more expertise there. [C - College Confidential](College Confidential Forums - Admissions Discussions and Threads)
Never been to Conn. College but we did visit Bucknell. My son thought the location was too remote, and the Greek life participation too high for his tastes. But you already visited and didn’t mind the location…

Elect to live in the substance free dorm at Conn and you will be fine- a fun, close knit community who take part in all of the non-drinking activities that Conn has to offer.

What are you planning to study? Bucknell is great for engineering for example and Conn College doesn’t offer engineering.

The comments about Bucknell are spot on relative to being remote and having a high frat percentage.
