Building Resume as Unemployed Student

Hello all,

This is my first post so bear with me if it is formatted incorrectly or in the wrong section of the site.

I am going into my 5 year as a mechanical engineering student and, unfortunately, was unable to find a summer job. I'm worried about having a gap in my resume, and furthermore, not having an internship on under my belt before graduation.

Are there any independent undertakings to fill this gap in my resume that would also be beneficial in my future career hunt?

Since you’re a mech-E student, have you done any research with say a professor? If you haven’t, look for some research opportunities.

Also try going after job shadowing opportunities, these don’t pay but are very valuable. Contact some local small mech-E companies and you’re on your way.

These will help a bit. But more importantly it’s how you present yourself that is the most important.
