Do you guys know if Yale will pay for plane tickets to bulldog day based on your financial aid info? I know both MIT and Dartmouth do....

Most likely... Just call them and tell them that you really want to attend bulldog days, but you won't be able to afford it.

Case by case, Yale will. For highly-sought-after folks, area reps will sometimes pay for the flight out of their own funds and get reimbursed later. Harvard? Probably because of the high yield, this is one area in which Harvard is not as receptive to pleas of poverty, even though they are quite generous in other areas.

I called my regional rep yesterday, but she hasn't called back. Lemme know if you have some success if you do end up calling.

Anyone know any cheap hotels for parents to stay in, but aren't in the more ghetto areas of New Haven?

I got contacted about a bulldog days fly in program based on my financial info.

note: my EFC is 0, i'm a first generation. if any of that matters.

unfortunately we already had flights booked and stuff, so weren't able to take advantage of it, i talked to someone in finaid and they are going to reimburse me for my ticket home (we're driving out).

good luck with this,
james

thanks everyone! i emailed the bulldog day people today, waiting for a response

Hopefully, they'll pay for the train tickets.

Cob, do you parents plan on renting a car for Bulldog days or stay in downtown New Haven? There are only a couple of walking distance hotels but with a car the possibilities expand.

yes actually they are renting a car

I should have asked this before - can they get an AAA guide to New Haven area. The nicest downtown Hotel is the Omni - followed by the much smaller Colony Inn both walking distance. There's a Residence Inn on Long Wharf Drive in New Haven - Also a hotel on upper Whalley ave - you may want a car for these - but if you get a guidebook towns with 15- 20 minutes drive - West Haven, Hamden, East Haven, Milford all have reasonable hotels
