Unless you are having a complete mental breakdown, you do not break your med school sequence. Med school seats are few and coveted. Most schools have fewer than 100 students in each year's class and to allow you to "take a break" would mean an unfilled seat in your original class and a candidate that they could not accept for the following year.

It is perfectly acceptable, however, to take a year off between Undergrad and Med school as long as you keep some connection to the medical profession through EC's.

Loan requirements vary greatly but almost all require that you be a matriculated student in order to receive them. They won't give you student loan money for the purpose of not attending class for a year.
