its not the honors college designation that gets the lower in state tuition rate, its being the recipient of a scholarship.Tell your D she'l have to look inot applying for those OOS scholarships that are (hopefully) available to a soph (or as they call it, a second year).

This is the scholarship she was looking at from the USC Financial Aid/ Scholarship page. South Carolina Honors College Scholarship:

Given to OOS honors students who have no other scholarship support. It requires a minimum of 3.5 GPA. No application is necessary. The award is given as a matter of course to all out-of-state students who have no scholarship support.

I'm hoping that this means as long as she gets into the honors college, she would get this scholarship since she is not getting any other USC scholarship. She is getting a small scholarship from IBM, but we would gladly give that one up to get this one, since the IBM is only worth $2,000 a year.

she should confirm that the scholarship wasn't for entering freshman only.

Yes, many of the scholarships are for entering freshman only. We will definately be paying a high price for her late decision. At least we know she will be at the right school for her, and the best program for her major.

good to know CCS have you considered advertising in the Daily Gamecock on the USC campus?

Dan

I see that you also offer children's fares. If I could make a suggestion, come up with a USC student special rate and you will probably have more business than you can imagine. The main reason many are looking at Charlotte is not necessarily only for more flight options but also for better fares. $89 added to most fares will make them within shouting distance of many CAE fares and perhaps not worth the hassle of added time to the commute especially when trying to get away for a short/weekend break etc.

You may find that you will more than make up for the difference in volume of riders.

Just my $0.02

If it seems a reduced student rate won't cover your costs with only one student, you may want to look into a special student rate with a couple of specific time scheduled runs during "peak" travel times - fall break, end of semester, spring break, etc. I know other univeristy's where this is done. Or you might offer a reduced rate if 2-3 students are leaving at the same time for Charolette.

In addition to advertising in the student newpaper, you might want to contact Admissions and see about leaving info at the Honors Program Office/dorm and the Capstone Program Office/Dorm. These programs have a higher percentage of out of state students than the University as a whole.
