I'm a 22yr old student working at a bank. I didn't exactly know what I wanted to do when I first started college but now that I do 5yrs has went by. And for a B.Arch degree I need 5 more years starting this fall. I wanted to if I also take a BBA with my B.Arch would that increase the chances of getting a job. And eventually if I don't get a M.Arch I would still like to get an MBA. Now job wise would that be a mistake or am I going down the right path? It would take me 2 more years to get a BBA and 5 more to get my B.Arch. I searched this forum and havn't found any architecture major with a business degree.

Also my college for Bachelor of Science in BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION has 3 options.
1) Management Information Systems
2) Management of Operations and Technology Management
3) Marketing

If you do suggest to go ahead and get a BBA with a B.Arch. Which of those 3 tracks would be better for architecture?

It seems like a lot of students switch to architecture and then switch back out. However, if that is what you want to do, why not just finish your degree (I assume you are close to finished?) and then go for the M. in Arch which takes 3 to 3.5 yrs to complete.

Also, It doesn’t sound like you have any idea what you want to do. Why do you want an MBA? You don’t need an MBA to be an architect.

Well I’m still an undergrad and I have 5 more years to get my B.Arch. I do want to become an architect, but as I work at a bank and around people from this area and my mom advised me to get an M.B.A. as well. I did do some research and universities like Yale does have a program with M.Arch and M.B.A. Now Yale is way out of my league but I’m trying to get them at my school. So is this a good idea?

You can’t get into an MBA program without post-graduate work experience. It sounds like you are planning to be a student for the rest of your life without any goals.

My point is that there are Masters in Architecture that don’t require a related undergrad degree. They just take longer. So, if you are close to graduating then you could just graduate and then get for your Masters.

5 extra years for a bachelors in architecture doesn’t seem very reasonable.

As for an MBA, that is useful if you want to go into real estate development but is completely unnecessary to become an architect.

Yes I was reading about that in that forum, to get an M.Arch you don’t need a B.Arch. Now that could save me a lot of money and 5years of my life. But how would I proceed to that and how can I return to get my M.Arch. Because I am really passionate about becoming an architect, but 5 years is a long time.

Work on my B.Arch for the next 5yrs.
While doing so, try to get my bachelor of science in business administration.
Now while I do this I do need to work for financial reasons. And I work at a bank at the moment.
So if I get my Business degree I’m hopping to either get a promotion or a better job.
Than 3 years of intership after my B.Arch.
Then my licensce.
And probably right after or a couple of years later I want to go back to get my M.Arch/M.B.A

No, you don’t. You just need post-graduate work experience. Get your M. Arch immediately and become an Architect. There is no reason to get your MBA if you want to be an architect. If you later decide you want to transition into real estate development or another field you can go back for your MBA at that time.

i have wanted to be an architect but decided to switch to business. but from all the architect that i have talked to, they all hate the business aspect of running a firm. so i think that you should get your architecture license but if can, take some business course or maybe a mino, you don’t really need an official degree. maybe just a minor in Business Administration if your school offers it, or management.
