I am applying to Wharton and until now the only things that are business related on my application are the facts that I have started a business and that I received a commendation for excellence in Economics. Other than that, everything else consists of mathematics awards.

But now I am taking part in the a national virtual stock exchange competition and the prizes go to:

top 5 from each school
top 3 individuals overall

I am barely in the running for the top 3 individuals overall (might make it, might not) but I will definitely get into the top 5 from each school. So I was wondering, what effect this will have on my application to very selective business schools?

Would just having the top 5 from school suffice or would getting the top 3 overall award really boost my application?

If you want to see it in context, here is, basically, my profile: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/924668-chance-me-ivies-will-chance-back-d.html

Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate it!

Many people who get into Wharton have few business related extracurricular activities or awards. Obviously, having them can only help but Wharton is looking more for elusive leadership qualities than anything else. Your best bet is to attain leadership positions in the activities you do (whether they be sports, debate, student government) in order to demonstrate you have leadership ability.

These are my most significant ECs and most of them leadership. Do you reckon it is enough? Apart from that, the only other leadership I have is at my work experience:

I keep telling this to people… the stock market game is not impressive. It’s literarly gambling, all luck. For example, you don’t get credit for risk-adjusted return.

So it would have no effect at all?

Actually I think it might have a negative effect… (completely serious.) The only exception is if you included it in an essay or something, and described a legitimate investing methodology that you applied to the game.
