Hi, I am an out-of-state UC Transfer and am wondering whether the course, 'Business Calculus with Applications' is transferable to UC Economics programs, filling the Calculus 1 prerequisite; both 'Calculus 1' and 'Business Calculus with Applications' are offered at my current school, but I already took the latter, so do I need to retake the 'Calculus 1' course or will 'Bus. Calc.' likely transfer?

Thank you in advance for a response!

I haven’t received my official course articulations yet, so I’m not 100% positive, but most of the people that I spoke to at UCLA were positive that Business Calculus does not translate into Calculus 1.

I fully expected this, as even at the institution that I took the class at, Business Calculus is not interchangeable with Calculus… but this may be different for you.

What I’m not sure about though is whether Business Calculus will still fulfill the Quantitative Reasoning requirement or not. Regardless, if you need Calculus 1 for your program I personally would absolutely take Calculus 1.

If you need an absolute answer I would call undergraduate admissions at the school that you’re applying to. This is a common situation so they should be able to give you a quick yes or no answer.

Good Luck!

To be honest I don’t think the course will transfer over. I’m also an OOS and I’ve had to use assist.org to plan my schedule and pick courses. I followed the articulation guide from Santa Monica College and there is no mention of taking Business Calculus. It states to take Calculus 1. Bear in mind that SMC does offer Business Calculus.

As @SanDiegoStateGuy said your best bet is to take the course they cited on the website. If you have any questions or concerns then contact the school directly to receive an answer.
