Business Economics vs Business Administration

So I was recently enrolled as BizEcon major for this fall and I'm actually having alot of trouble finding the courses and units that I have to complete. Conversely I'm inquiring to change my major to BizAdmin if it is possible. Although I'm not familiar with the units necessary either. I'm not much of a Math person, so majoring in Econ really isn't my gimmick. I felt that BizAdmin would fit my set of skills.

It would be much appreciated if anybody can lay out the Pros and Cons of both majors (Number of courses taken, Ease, Difficulty).

And if possible, am i still able to switch at the nearest SPOP?

You cannot change your major into Business Administration at SPOP. It’s not an easy change either. Business Administration only accepts change of majors once a year - spring quarter. They accept like 10-15 people per year, with the exception of this past year just because that’s how the numbers worked out. The average GPA tends to be around 3.8 for change of majors.

There are also many other Business Econ vs. Business Admin threads, if you wish to check them out.

Bus Admin was substantially over-enrolled, They’re getting easier to get into starting now as they just graduated their first class and space is now sane. My friend got into it with only a 3.5 GPA.

As far as your major is concerned… IT DOESN’T matter. I’m a math/econ major and taken the majority of the bus admin courses(they’re very easy) and I can tell you that I learned very little about business from both my econ and my bus admin classes. You will learn more by doing internships and gaining real world experience.

Employers know this. If you want to go into “business” then focus on resume building.

What matters(roughly in order)
Where you interned at and what you accomplished there
Where you go
GPA
major

since you’re at UCI, check out these clubs
Accounting Association
Undergraduate Finance Association
Student Managed Investment Fund
Undergraduate Business Association
Undergraduate Consulting Association
Management Information Student Society
Economics Society(might not be as relevant, but still decent)

what I’d suggest doing to succeed in business
During your summers(now and next year) do something interesting and noteworthy that you can talk about during your interviews. If at all possible make it something noteworthy. Maybe lead a volunteer project with a well known Organization or otherwise get involved.(Think Red Cross, VITA, anything really) If at all possible get a part time job at a Fortune 500 company. One summer of retail at an F500 company is a decent start(try Banks such as BoA and Chase, Target, and other well known firms). From there check Zotlink constantly. It’s a great way to boost yourself.

One internship/experience per summer and 1 or 2 leadership positions in clubs is all you need really. If you start LATE it gets way harder because then you have to intern while in school.
