i will end up doing business at ut McCombs but i'm really undecided as in what major i shoudl do within business, i really like finance and wanna do ibanking but i'm having second thoughts since its reallllyyyy compettiive and you have to work like 100 hours a week, any advice on what a really good major within business is that also pays well

Double major in accounting and finance. McCombs BHP is tops, and their acct program is really good. Just because you major in finance doesnt necessarily mean you have to work in finance. The accounting major should give you a lot of flexibility.

It depends on you. Do you want to be in the office at your desk most of the day--or do you want to be out calling on distributors and making sales pitches/working on ad campaigns--or do you want to be down on a shop floor figuring out how to improve efficiency of the line and production processes--or do you want to be working on the problems people have working together or figuring out how to recruit and provide good benefit packages.

The items above cover, in order: (1) accounting/finance, (2) sales/marketing, (3) operations/production management, and (4) human resources.

Additionally there are careers possible in operations decision-making, strategic management, business law, real estate, actuarial science/insurance, hotel management, food management, quality, information systems, and business process improvement/engineering.

You have to know what interests you--so you will be good at it--and enjoy doing it for your career for the next 30 years or so. Best of luck at figuring this out.
