What should I major in at McCombs?

I am transferring to UT Business (McCombs) for my sophomore through senior years... Every time that I'm asked for my major, I just write down "Business Management," and that's what I plan to major in. But it looks like a lot of people who major in management also have a minor or at least a concentration in some other field. I'm not in the honors college, so that already limits my job potential. Should I stick something else onto the end of my business management major, like a minor or concentration in some other business field?

In fewer words, what are the job prospects for just a plain old business management major from McCombs, and what can I do to improve them?

Perhaps you should research this more and research the various positions you can get with different degrees. It sounds like you don’t know what you want to do in life.

McCombs is strong for accounting…might be a good place to start

You don’t just major in business management, you choose an actual major and receive a bachelors in business administration in that major. There are a few to choose from, including finance, management, accounting, and marketing, all of which are ranked in the top 5 programs for those majors in the country. If you were in business honors, you would major in business honors and one of those specialties, otherwise you just choose one of them to major in.

Personally, I think it’s a complete waste to go to McCombs and major in management, but that’s just me.

^ feel free to expand on that point.

Pretty dumb thing to say, whiteoverblue.

I think what he’s getting at is the fact that management, regardless of what school you go to, is already perceived as a pointless degree to some extent. Therefore, going to UT for management, which won’t help you much despite the UT name versus going to their accounting, finance, etc. programs that will be bolstered by the UT name is kind of a waste (no flaming me, that’s just my guess as to what he’s talking about)

creamgetthamoney, you are being very positive. Some of us are more critical.
