Business major

I am currently looking into Brandeis for next year and wanted to know if anyone can shed light on the business program. I know that its fairly new i believe it will start this year but can anyone tell me how this program will be regarded? thanks

I am also looking into other schools such as Boston College and Northeastern

Hi SimpleJack, you’re right–the business major for undergrads will begin in 2009-2010 and I believe it will be highly regarded because

 1. The International Business School is top ranked for finance and global management [Brandeis University International Business School: Business, Economics and Finance for Global Leadership](Brandeis International Business School) and IBS courses will be a big component of the business major.
 2. Econ has always been one of Brandeis’ strongest majors and the econ dept. will obviously be intertwined with the business major. [Economics | Brandeis University](Department of Economics | Brandeis University) For many years, very successful Brandeis alums majored in econ and minored in business and found great success in the big financial firms.
 3. Your business courses will be balanced by very high-quality liberal arts classes which will impress graduate schools and employers.

For more info, I would e-mail one of the business or econ undergraduate dept. reps [09-10 UDRs | Brandeis University](http://www.brandeis.edu/das/programs/udr/reps_09-10.html)

Hope this helps answer your question.

FYI, here’s a link to an article discussing the new Brandeis Business major:

Thanks you guys have been very helpful

Here’s some additional detailed info on the business major:

Thank you. You have been really helpful. Is it hard to double major at Brandeis? do you find the workload over whelming? Reason i say this is because i know Brandeis has a lot of well know teachers that are distinguished are they hard graders?

as a parent, i can’t speak to the amount of work – but with regard to the ease of double majoring – at brandeis there seems to be a LOT of students who double major or major with one or more minor.

from what my student has told me – ease of grading and amount of work varies by professor (fyi – brandeis students can access a course evaluation guide, so you’d be able to see what other students have thought of a professor and a course – you need a brandeis unet login to access the guide so looking at that would have to wait until you are a student.) in general, my student has reported that just about every prof has been wonderful as well as readily accessible for questions.

At a faculty meeting towards the end of last semester, it was announced that about 44 percent of students in 2009 had a double major,24 percent just 1 majore and 1 minor, 19 percent just a single major, 12 percent 1 major and 2 minors, 4 percent were triple majors and 1 major and 3 minors, 1 percent.
Data from from 2000 to 2008 is here:

(here they combine everyone with a major and 1 or multiple minors to be one statistic)
