Business Skills before Wharton

Hey guys,

Well, I am thrilled about my admittance into Wharton. However, now I am a bit concerned that I don't know enough about the fundamentals of finance coming into Wharton. I was educated in a fairly rural Nebraska high school. There, I really had to teach myself mostly everything. In fact, I have never taken a formal economics/accounting/programming/etc class in HS. So, are there any books (textbooks?), you guys would recommend that I read before classes start. One of my friends (also a Wharton admit) suggested a few books, but I just wanted to get a little more feedback.

THANKS,
Robbie

You don’t need prior knowledge on finance at all. I’m not a Wharton student, but I’m sure the majority of Wharton admits don’t know much, if anything, about finance. That’s why they’re going to Wharton, to learn!

don’t need a thing. If you want to, the return of depression economics by Krugman and A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Malkiel are light reads and very enjoyable. Textbooks are overkill.

Skimming an AP econ textbook will help smooth that econ curve a bit but yeah, most ppl don’t know much coming in. If you want to be really pre-professional, grab freshman internships etc then there are some books I can recommend you depending on what industry interests you (if you don’t know yet, send me a pm and I can give you run down). Note that these aren’t exactly academic. They give you knowledge of the market etc but aren’t anywhere close to textbooks.
