What are the best undergraduate business schools that can apply to in the northeast? I am not good enough for harvard or MIT, however, im looking at NYU stern. What other schools are in the vicinity of Stern in the Northeast? Im from new jersey, and rutgers business school is the closest thing to me, however its not very reputable. im looking for something more of a reach school. any ideas? what competes with NYU stern?

Penn Wharton, of course, and you might also look at Bentley. If you’re open to economics instead of business per se, you’ll have lots of choices. It’s fairly common for business careers to follow the BA/BS + MBA path.

Wharton would be ideal. Although its more or less as competitive as Harvard and MIT.

Other top/reputable undergraduate business schools in the northeast that I would consider if I were in your position:
Cornell (AEM)
Boston College (Carroll)
Carnegie Mellon (Tepper) - very quant based reputation

Less competitive schools would entail: Lehigh, Villanova, Babson, Bentley

What do you want from studying business? What do you hope to do afterwards? The answers will suggest schools with particular strengths.

By the way, Rutgers may offer a huge benefit if you want to stay in the NY/NJ/CT area. It has loads of alumni in companies all over the region. The career office is likely in touch with many of them, and least some might want to help a new grad get started (or move up).

You can also look into UMichigan (Ross - although this is hard to get in as a direct admit), Fordham (Gabelli), Indiana (Kelly), Tulane (Freeman), Babson, Notre Dame (Mendoza), Emory, URichmond, UNC, USC as well as the suggestions listed by icheetah90.

I thought we were limited it to the northeast ;).

you don’t need to make a thread in each forum section

Villanova
Northeastern
BU
BC
Fordham
Penn State

Thanks everybody if i had to choose a few schools from those provided, im thinking about applying to nyu stern and bc carroll, and villanova and rutgers on a more safe side. Maybe ill throw one more in there…northeastern, bentley, lehigh, fordham, or penn state? Which of those has the most reputable and rewarding business program?

rutgers definitely offers me the most money btw, almost 30,000 dollars less than each of the other schools listed, and a total of 42 AP credits, which the other schools wouldn’t give me. Im looking for a school that can get me some good internships and make me a strong candidate for grad school. is it better to just go to rutgers, and graduate among the top of the class, or should i go to a more reputable school, and graduate mid way in the class? would the internship opportunities, and grad school chances be shot out considerably by going to Rutgers? because it is so much more convenient in terms of location, price, and credits :/

What do you mean those other schools won’t give you the AP credit? I attend BC and the school gives credit for most test scores at least at a 4. If Rutgers is significantly cheaper and you like it, it’s a good option. Although if you’re looking to work in high finance it will be harder to get internships than from some of the other schools listed (BC, NYU, CMU).

Depends entirely on what you want to study or what your looking for. NEU has a good co-op (particularly solid for accounting), Lehigh offers an Integrated Business and Engineering honors program, Bentley is a very business oriented school, and Fordham offers a more traditional approach.

Rutgers is a good school and comes at a very affordable price. See where you get in first and then make your decision.

Babson would be good, if you only want to study business.

@icheetah — oops…didn’t read the heading well enough…sorry. I concur with the schools listed above as good choices. Perhaps add in SUNY Binghamton, particularly if money is an issue (it is reasonable for OOS students).

@OP - I don’t like to compare schools but my S was very happy at Fordham’s Gabelli Business school and is now off to do a one year master’s program at a top-ranked university. I’d also look at Lehigh as I know people who have done very well from there. My S did not like Bentley/Babson because he didn’t want to be with only business students but that was his personal choice and you might well feel otherwise. I don’t have first-hand information about the other schools.
