Hi everyone,
I got into Stevens this fall as a finance major but was thinking about switching to business and technology since I found that major’s coursework/curriculum to be a lot more interesting to me. But I’ve always loved political science and I was wondering what the department was like at Stevens and if I should minor in it. I’d love to get my master’s in business or political science (sometimes I consider both but that’s down the road, so I’m not thinking too far into the future now), but I was trying to figure out if a business major and a poli sci minor from Stevens would set me up for a either postgrad education I’d be debating over the next few years.
Check out the course catalog page and lists of majors/minors/concentrations that are available. https://catalog.stevens.edu/front
I don’t think a minor in poli sci is offered, only a minor in social sciences with a concentration in poli sci.
Something to consider about Stevens is that it leans towards engineering degrees. Yes, you can get a CS degree or a Business degree but you will not have as much choice as you would at a larger school. Really look through what is offered before you decide to change your major.
Just as an example, as a CS major you may want to take a certain course, but it is only offered in the spring, and not at all in the summer. And that one course might be taught by the worst professor in the department but you have to take it because you need it as a prerequisite for a class you need to take the next semester. Compare to a school like Rutgers where you will have a class offered on multiple days, at multiple times, by multiple professors. A small school is nice, but there are some drawbacks, such as this.
Engineers at Stevens have the widest choice of courses. Others, not so much.
