Today’s our lucky day - just had word that our son, who will be a senior next year was accepted to BUSTI & Carnegie Mellon’s Acting program. I was a Cherub at Northwestern in the early 80s, and it’s stirred up so many fond memories.
I’d love to hear personal experience with these two summer programs - pros and cons.
They both sound great.
I looked at videos of some of the devised performances BUSTI students have created - these are not my son’s bag - he has participated in similar things and seen plenty of others.
It sounds as though there is a bit of a leg up for undergrad admissions for hardworking BUSTI seniors. On the other hand - Carnegie Mellon’s audition focus sounds fantastic for undergrad admissions to every BFA program EXCEPT Carnegie Mellon! (And, uh, Julliard - the brass ring!)
To complicate things, my son’s education has been non-traditional for the most part and while this path has led to exceptionalism in some subjects (and a love of the Socratic method), I’m nervous about ACT and SAT scores, and transcripts. I wound up going to Northwestern after my Cherub summer, and I’ve always thought that I benefited from my participation. (I have a BA, not a BFA, which is what my son wants)
