Buyer's Remorse

I'm experiencing this with choosing UCSC over Davis and SB. I am generally an anxious person, so I don't know if it's my anxiety getting me worked up but I find myself still spending time looking at all the schools despite registering for UCSC. I'm a little depressed over the choice.
Did anyone experience buyer's remorse over choosing ucsc? or any college?

I did for a little while.

Before I found out about game design at Santa Cruz, I was set on attending Santa Barbara. I applied to both. Go into both. By the time I had received my acceptance letters, I had picked UCSC. There was a little nagging something in the back of my brain that I’m letting myself off easy by going to the “easier” of the UCs. By the end of my very first day here, that nagging feeling was gone. I met wonderful people who I couldn’t imagine trading prestige for. And that’s really what it came down to. I made friends in the first 24 hours that have suck with me since, and they’ve made UCSC the best college there is for me. No doubt.

I really regretted choosing UCSD. Then I cancelled my SIR and chose Davis on May 1. Now I feel better.

But in all seriousness, I have actually been thinking about UCSB (and UCSD to a lesser extent) since making my decision. I’ve visited both schools’ websites. I’ve pictured myself at both schools. I do believe I made the right decision, though. I know because I had the same feelings you have when I thought I was stuck with UCSD, but now I feel better being “stuck with” Davis (actually, for a little bit I regretted not applying to UCSC.) I’m sure your anxiety will pass once you start at Santa Cruz. Just remember that you would probably feel this way regardless of where you chose.

I picked UCSC over UCLA, super hard decision, I have no buyers remorse, because college is what you make of it, honestly, Davis, while about 30 points higher in rankings, isn’t that much of a better school. And if you are applying for a job, they will not think higher of the Davis person of the SC person, honestly.

I chose UCSC over UCLA and yeah before I SIR’d I was worried about attending Santa Cruz. That changed when I went to spring spotlight. At the end of the day you should go where you are more comfortable because that makes all the difference. Plus if your thinking about grad school like me (med school), Your grad school diploma counts more compared to your undergrad.

Thanks for all the replies :] Eased a lot of worries…now I’m sure it’s just anxiety.

I’d be more concerned with having the distinction of being referred to as the “Banana Slugs” for the next 4 years. Seriously, going to school in the Santa Cruz/Capitola area will be fantastic. It is the closest thing to paradise.

Have a great undergrad experience there!

Just remember GAHHHH if you are worried about prestige, in reality Davis is not any better than UCSC, maybe in a couple specific majors, but if your applying to some employer in Silicon Valley, they won’t know the difference. If you want a school with a good college life, Davis is actually the worse choice compared to SC. And if you want a challenging school that can get you into grad or something like that, you simply need to challenge yourself and get involved, which you can easily do at both schools.

Honestly, in this day UCSC,UCD,UCI,and UCSB are all pretty equal now, (this would not be the case maybe a decade ago). The only real thing that keep’s Santa Cruz from being truly recognized is the fact it offers pretty much no professional schools (med school, law school, etc.) Which is what UCSC ISN’T about, UCSC focus’ on undergrad teaching, leaves grad school for the bigger UC’s.

Just watch whats going to happen to Riverside once it’s med school opens.

Oh and Employers don’t care about your undergrad school.

I think it’s completely natural to have those feelings right after SIR’ing. I remember wondering why I chose UCSC over UCSD out of high school and I really started to regret it about a month before classes started. However, those feelings were completely gone once I moved into my dorm. College is what you make of it and it’s important that you enjoy where you are because you are ultimately investing in a crucial part your academic/professional career.

However, I can see a person choosing another university over UCSC due to certain majors. I actually transferred out of UCSC because I felt that the business management economics program was pretty weak for those interested in careers outside of accounting. I didn’t feel the curriculum would have prepared me enough compared to other students and also their recruiting for non-accounting majors was pretty dismal, so I had to make a tough decision and leave UCSC. Although I love UCSC and I still keep in contact with nearly all my friends there, I still don’t regret transferring out.

Funny, it was very, very easy for me to turn down Irvine for Santa Cruz. It was only after I started at UCSC that I had regrets. But that’s in the past, hopefully.

Truth is, you don’t know what you’ll think of the place until you start classes there. It’s sh**ty, but all you can do is make a decision, and just change your situation if you end up not liking it.

wanna clarify why you regret it once you started? your getting me worried now -.-

It’s in the past. Basically nothing was what I expected, which I suspect I’m not alone on. I could’ve done some things differently, and I’ve already made those changes for this fall, such as living on campus and changing my major. I almost didn’t come back, but I decided to give it another shot. There’s not much else I can do. I’m hoping I have better luck.
