When and where will the textbook information for each course be posted? I would like to start researching prices soon. So any information you can give would be great!
Right now, only information about summer books is online. There are two bookstores that we have used. One is the official university bookstore, which is on campus. The other is Kennedy’s Wildcat Den. I believe it is on Limestone, right next to the parking garage. Books can often be bought online from other sources. Because many editions are special UK editions, we found it easier to not take that route.
The search tool for Kennedy’s was easier for me to use, especially to play around with to see possible prices. The first time you buy college textbooks it will be confusing, as some classes require you to purchase online codes. Books can be purchased with or without the codes. Codes can be purchased without the books. Some are packaged together. Also, some textbooks for classes that are sequenced come in multiple versions. For example, Calculus and many science books can be purchased in multiple semester formats. You can buy both semesters of Physics (General University Physics 1 & 2) at the same time if you know that you will be taking both classes. We bought at move in and was able to get all of the books that she needed. There were not many used books available at that time.
Do not open the shrink wrap on books until you are sure that they are what you need and that you will not change your schedule. Books were not as shockingly high as we had anticipated from touring other colleges and hearing horror stories. I could be wrong, but I believe we spent less than $300 first semester, and some books carried over into the next semester. But, don’t trust my old brain. Play around with the site. Some general education type classes are probably offered over summer just to get a possible cost estimate.
