I know the deadlines for my schools, but I saw on the collegeboard website that you should complete the profile at least two weeks prior to your first deadline. Do you really have to file it that early? So basically what I'm asking is, if I submit my CSS profile on January 31 will it reach my school by the February 1st deadline?

No, it will not. Remember the profile is a clearinghouse that gathers the information and sends it out to the other schools that you are applying to. The colleges on the other end will have to down load your information. This will take more than 24 hours to do. Even if you do the profile this weekend, it is still kind of tight when it comes to meeting the 2/1 deadline.

i submitted on the 11th and the latest one was sent on the 13th. i would suggest doing it asap though, at least 5 days before deadline, just to be safe.

Alas, it’s important to read through the financial aid section of each college website to see when the deadlines are. Also check and see if the college has supplements. It can be a hassle! (but worth it if you get through all the hoops).

“Your application will be considered on time if you submit your PROFILE by midnight Eastern Time of your earliest priority filing date. The College Board will begin processing your application immediately after submission.”

This is directly from the filing website. Isn’t it saying that if I submit on January 31, 2010 by 11:59 Eastern Time, my application will reach my schools by the February 1st deadline?

I found the College Board web site to be buggy. I would NOT wait until the last minute in case it’s acting up again (or the power goes out, or I fall sleep, etc.). I’ve submitted mine today, but if you must wait longer please give yourself at least one full day in advance to submit it.

I always advise my kids not wait to the last minute for things because of “bugs” that can happen. I remember in the Fall, the posts of people who couldn’t get certain sites to work, being knocked off, timed out, etc. Always give yourself a few days.
Even at home, I tell them that, one year I remember a melt down when they realized our ink was almost out in our printer and they had to print out a huge paper…and it was Sunday night. The fact they waited until then didn’t help, but they still tend to push the envelope on occasion. I wouldn’t recommend it with FA forms.
