I’ve decided to take PE/Health online for my junior year so I can free up the slot in my schedule. My school accepts credits from both BYU independent study and Educere, but I’m unsure which program would be best. BYU is $100 cheaper, $300 compared to $400, but I’ve heard from a few people that BYU’s courses for Health and PE are exceptionally hard, even unfair. Can anyone support or refute this?
Don’t you have any local online school choices? In my state PE was test out for my kids and health is 30$ online. I cannot imagine your paying BYU such money. Investigate your local options first.
My daughter did BYU online high school courses for three semesters of PE and one semester of health for the same reason, in order to open up her schedule to double up on a foreign language one year, and double up on science another year. The online health class was the only one of the four that she was able to finish quickly. The PE courses are pretty rigorous in that in order to earn an A she had to log a certain number of hours or weeks of the particular exercise or activity and so it’s nearly impossible to do the courses quicker than a semester and meet all the requirements. You are on the honor system actually doing the activities. My daughter did Jogging, Aerobics, and some other general fitness class. She isn’t athletic and hadn’t heard anything positive about PE at her high school so these worked for her. She did sign up for Bowling at first, but withdrew when it became clear that she was never going to be able to bowl well enough to earn an A (you had to score a certain level and send scanned sheets printed from a bowling alley). They were good courses, not unfair, but also not “easy.”
Thanks, that was pretty helpful. The one I had my eye on was “walking fitness” and I have all summer to log the required 45 days to get an A for the log portion of the grade so I should be fine. Would you happen to know if when your daughter did “jogging” she had to use MapMyRun.com to log the hours? I need to use that site for the walking course and I want to make sure it’s just a matter of filling out logs and not actually a GPS tracked process, which would be a huge headache. Thanks
