**not bad enough for learning disability, but kinda interesting: have synesthesia, which affects my math ability. basically all numbers and letters are colored, and i see colors for every sound i hear. neurological/genetic anomaly.

I think that it is unknown of what the admissions people would think for your chances...it is unpredictable becuase the want the best "all around"..you may have a chance but the C may hurt but I think it being an AP will make it understandable

Guys, she has a learning disability that effects math...they will not hold this against her. Get ur GC and a doctor to explain this and have your teachers do so as well in their recs. Your only weakness is something that you have no control over and admissions isn't as heartless as it may seem.

excel: Alg II isn't an AP class, but everything u say is true

I'm fairly certain that synesthesia contributes signficantly to my difficulties with math.

The problem is, though, while synesthesia, as far as I know of, isn't techincally classified as a learning disability (it's classified as a "genetic and neurological abnormality) in the same way something like ADD or Autism is. Not much is known about the "condition" yet since it's fairly rare, but there is a definite trend of people with synesthesia who are bad at math, and a high number (compared to the general population) who are frankly discalculic.

So, I'm not sure how much this would affect admissions, or if it would affect it at all since synesthesia is not officially considered a learning disorder.

personally, i think you have a fairly good chance.

you should work as hard as you can to raise your math grades and scores, but your extra curriculars look amazing, and your location should help.

bouncechrissy: As long as you don't apply to be a math major, I don't see why "synesthesia" will hold you back. Just some advice on your app, I would try to avoid how synesthesia affected your school career in your essays except if you have a really compelling story that combines it with your other amazing talents. Save the academic struggle with math for your teachers (maybe even have your math teacher right a rec...they love it when the teacher who gives you the lowest grade writes a rec for you because then they don't hear "she was a great student and so I gave him an A! but an explanation of how the student tried to overcome a problem) Ur GPA is amazing before Alg II and Chem (both math related) and you are taking a rigorous curriculum with APs that avoid math...I thin you have a great shot!

Ok, thanks! I'm working my butt off to yank up my grade in math and my teacher can tell, so maybe he'll be more forgiving when it comes to my final grad.e I think I might be able to get an A this semester in Chem too, but we'll see what happens.
