I just had a quick question for fellow Cal transfers. I received my CARS statement today and noted that there is a discrepancy between the amount paid out from my University Grants and the amount credited to my CARS account. I also noted that my University Fee Grant isn't even listed on the statement. Both of the grants show as being fully paid under BearFacts. The amount sent to CARS matches what is listed under my Financial Aid letter.

The CARS statement doesn't show an owed balance. However, I am concerned for obvious reasons. Is anyone else in this situation?

Thanks

last year i used to get confused about that all the time. here is how it works:

-financial aid award has the "amount sent to CARS" stated on bearfacts prior to them actually sending the full amount to CARS.

-The amount actually sent to CARS approximately a month prior to the semester is enough to cover the tuition fees/old balances & housing costs if the housing department gets the bill to CARS by the 3rd of the month.

-10 days before the semester starts (sometimes it's 10 days before classes start) so approximately between the 13-17 of August the rest of your f/a will post on CARS, if you have anything left once everything is paid then they refund you the remaining amount and drop it into your bank account on file approximately 1-3 days after it posts to CARS.

what I usually do to find out how much of a refund I am getting is to take the amount of the financial aid award and then subtract the amount that has been posted to cover fees/tuition etc.

so to make a long story short, the rest of the money is coming in the middle of August. hope this helps...=)

Phew. Thank you so much!

My mind is at ease and you've saved me from writing a tortured email to an already irritated Financial Aid counselor!!
